Running From an External USB HDD on OS X

Hi, I am using an iMac and would like to run FS-UAE from a 2.5" USB HDD, I would like to have the application installed on the USB HDD and all its info (database etc.) on the USB HDD so that I can disconnect the drive and move it to another mac and run the app and have a fully working Amiga system.

So my guess is I simply run the app from the USB and it will create the required files on the USB ? or will it create them on the iMac HDD.

T.I.A

Hi, just make sure to use the *portable version* and extract it to somewhere on your USB HDD and run the apps from there

Thanks for the answer, I have copied all my files to the root of the HDD, and when I start the launcher it quits unexpectedly.

I have attached the output. Its an .rtf file that i could only upload if I gave it an .s extension.
Attached Files
File Type: s crash_dump.s (56.1 KB, 109 views)

I have done some tests and I have found that it will run from the internal HDD (mac) but crashes when run from the USB. Anyone else has this ?

FIXED!!!

It turns out that the Mac version of FS-UAE MUST be run on a drive formatted with Mac OS Extended (Journaled). If you use a FAT partition like I did for compatibility reasons it will not run.

I don't know if it would work on a partition formatted with NTFS.

Just thought I would share.

Hi, and thanks for the report and thorough testing

You are right, I too tried FS-UAE Launcher 2.4.1 on a FAT drive, and it aborts as you reported.

The good news is that FS-UAE Launcher 2.5.x works fine on FAT drives on OS X (tested just now)
