Is there a pure memory upgrade for the A1200?
I've seen the boards with the accelerators and memory upgrades, but is there any boards for the A1200 which are just memory upgrades?

I think the Blizzard 1200/4 is just a 4mb/8mb memory board as the FPU was optional.
I got a card from ebay recently and I have a manual for this board but received a 1220/4 which is accelerated and better! |

There are but for the price difference i'd just buy one of the new accelarators, of course once they start shipping there maybe a good price drop of ebay for the other expansion cards.

Yes, there are RAM expansion cards, and they will double your A1200's speed!! You will be quite happy with the increase

I'm glad Unitech Electronics have gone bankrupt then, because when I rang them to ask they assured me that there was no such thing as a memory-only expansion for the A1200. Liars. Of course I did not buy anything from them but maybe others did.

There are plenty of just-FastRAM expansion boards available for the A1200. I have a 4MB card in one of mine and it gives it a nice little boost above the stock A1200.
The sticking point with the A1200 is that it shipped with a 68EC020 CPU. The EC020s only have a 24-bit address bus, so you can't put more than 8MB of FastRAM into the trapdoor (And that will rule out the PCMCIA port; you're limited to 4MB if you want to use PC cards) As far as I can tell, Jens considers the ACA1230 cards as principally lots of very fast FastRAM. The 68030 is a necessity along the way, since it has a full 32-bit address bus and can (technically) address up to about 4GB of RAM. The CPU performance boost is purely a bonus. |
