Amiga <> PC with Parallel cable
I have a parallel cable (it came with PC Anywhere and I have used it ok between two PCs) that I would like to use to transfer files from my PC to my amiga. A couple of questions:
- is it ok to use for amiga <> PC transfers? - it seems (from looking at some old threads) that a program called 'NetworkPC' will do the job, can any kind person upload a copy? or point out where I can get it... BTW why are all (most?) of the transfer programs for a serial link? Thanks |

Yup, you can use that cable for transfer, the Program PC2Amiga will do the job for you (never heard of NetworkPC btw.). Most programs are for serial transfer, cause it WAS the most used solution, Parallel Transfer was discovered sometime later

I still have to buy a lap link cable...I'm looking around, and they cost about $30AU in my neck of the woods.

I tried to run PC2Amiga through serial, and it just didnt work... what am I to do? I think I am not properly running thePC side or something. Whatever, until I buy a parallel cable, TwinExpress it is It works a treat if you use it Amiga <> Amiga ! |

Hi
Xp and the parallel port dont work like previous OS's .. It has port protection or summat that stops the likes of PC2AM working .. This has been discussed previously on EAB. |

Back when I was suffering with PC2Am as my main transfer method, I ran the debug version on the PC side and it seemed to work a little better. A 4 wire laplink cable is what I used. |

The userport package is the solution here - it creates a virtual port for all those programs to bang.. Of course it isn't as "reliable" as directly banging the ports from win9x. Google usually finds userport pretty quickly, so I'll leave that as an excercise to the reader. :-) |

If it's a dosdriver, just go to devs:dosdrivers and sys:storage/dosdrivers and see if either has a file by the name of the device you're trying to use with the mount command. If you're using "mount pc:", then the dosdriver's filename would be devs:dosdrivers/pc (or sys:storage/dosdrivers/pc) or there would be a block in the mountlist that begins with PC: The difference between devs:dosdrivers and storage/dosdrivers is, that the stuff that lives under devs: gets run at boot time where the stuff under storage needs to be installed/mounted manually. (doubleclick on the icon or mount device: in the shell) They're text files, so open them up in your favourite editor.. If you don't have a favourite editor, use "ed", that comes with workbench. [esc] x - save and quit [esc] q - just quit [esc] k - delete line (if I rember correctly) Read the manual to find out what the different lines in the dosdriver/mountlist do. |
