Name of racing game?

Im looking for a racing game that I used to enjoy playing but too many beers have clouded my memory and I cant remember the name of it. The one thing that stands out is a box in the top left hand corner with all the gauges and shit and had little pics of all the cars, and they changed color depending on if you where ahead of them, behind or had lapped them. I am pretty sure it was called '????? Carts'. Any help would be much appreciated. :-)

Sounds like Virtual Karting or Virtual Karting 2. Here's a screen from the latter.

Nah mate, thats not the one. You raced indy cars and the view was from in the cockpit. The box with all the shit in took up the top third of the screen and I think (dont quote me though) that it had a map on the right hand side of the box.

I can remember that I liked the game better than most racers because it was fast. It didnt have flash graphics compared to most but had better hills, dips and speed(in my opinion anyway). I remember also that you could blow your engine by droping down gears to quick and flames would burst out.

Cheers :-)

Sounds like Indy 500 to me, but that only had on track, an oval, which of course don't have hills.

@Ian: not it, but cheers bloke.

@Twistin'Ghost: Geoff Crammond rocks!

If I remember rightly there was four or five tracks and I know that one had a bridge going over one of the straights. It was also a slow loader (i think) but worth the wait. The engine sounded like a dying mosquito and about the only other sound was the tires sqealing, which sounded pretty sad.

I remember that your car was red and you could se the drivers hands on the wheel.

Question

Vroom didn't have two players, but didn't Vroom 2 have a 2 player mode?
