As for bumping this thread up, here are my scariest games I've played:
1) F.E.A.R. (PC) I actually didn't have the nerves to go past that next corner, on several occasions... Great atmosphere, mostly due to the lighting and the excellent use of sound and music (or better, the absence on many occasions). 2) Doom I and II (PC) I had countless scares during gameplay. Especially those chilling imps with their scratching sound.... 3) Personal nightmare (Amiga) As mentioned before, this game has some gory imagery in there... |

Scariest "game" I ever played:
Using Disksalv on my Amiga HD But honestly - Above all: Eternal Darkness GC Next in line: Resident Evil 1 PSX (Sound effects were creepy as hell, played it solely with headphones in complete darkness!) |

I don't want to clutter up this thread with non Amiga games (not that that is bad, though) but I just wanted to add that I found Condemned: Criminal origins to be quite a scary thrill ride. One scene in a school level made me wet my pants.
Highly recommended. The game not my pants. |

I used to get freaked out by Maziacs on the speccy and Alien. Er, newer ones.... um, yeah Nightbreed was freaky. I used to play Gloom on the Amiga always with the volume too loud and some of the SFX made me junp same as Doom did! Later, Alien Trilogy, Alien vs Predator, Sanitarium. Doom 3 had it's moments too! Also, the "on drugs" level of Max Payne was freaky!
