Couple questions about using workbench

- how do you create shortcuts to, or leave icons out, on the workbench?
(having to navigate through directorys to find shell each time is draining)

- how do you 'associate' certain file types to run with certain programs?
e.g .txt files will always open with redit or some other notepad type program

FKey for shortcuts for example. For icons leave out there should be a "leave out" menu entry in WB titel menu.

Deficons if you use an old OS version. OS3.9 should has this function already.

There is a prog called IDer
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/IDer
that you can associate (via prefix/suffix or header info)

almost any file type to a tool to run it.

There may be others but that's what I use.

To have your "Shell" icon on the Workbench :
Code:
> ed SYS:.backdrop
(then)
:System/Shell
(save & quit "ed")

>(Reboot your Amiga)
I don't remember if it's >WB2 or >WB3. But for sure I used it with WB3 BitD
