Best diagnostic software

Hi guys, on the C64 there are great "dead test" cartridges that check every part of the machine for faults. Not just the RAM.

What's the best thing like that for A500?

If the system is running to such a degree that you can load software, there can't really be any major faults. The reason why diagnostic tools tend to be Kickstart replacements is so that it's possible to inspect the system even if it fails to boot all the way.

You could try this:

http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.co...ct.aspx?id=803
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=83444

But on a working machine (and without the extra test kit) it doesn't really get you all that much further than simply booting a game to try the system out

Keir Fraser's Systest is an excellent bit of programming that lets you test lots of aspects of the Amiga hardware. It's a small executable that takes over the machine, and can also be downloaded as a bootable ADF image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6F...RvOXVDd3M/view

I second Keir Fraser’s Systest.
Daedalus put me on to it and it helped diagnose a few issues that I had with an A1200. It was fun making the parallel port dongle too!

WELL. It looks great but if I test memory or even do a clean boot from HxC ADF then leave it sitting there without starting any tests, I get the attached exceptions!

I guess this thread should be called "What the heck is wrong with my Amiga?!"

Hmmm, that's interesting, I've never seen that before. I wonder if it's a problem with the area of memory that the program itself is loaded into? Or maybe it's not loading correctly and getting corrupted, either by the floppy circuitry or the drive/Gotek.

You could ask the developer of Systest - he goes by the username kaffer on this forum. Perhaps send him those images in a PM, see if he can shed any light on it.

Found this rather belatedly. If there is a SysTest issue or support question then it is best to raise an issue ticket on Github.

In this case, exception #1f is an unexpected level-7 interrupt (unmaskable, aka NMI). Amiga chipset does not generate NMIs, perhaps there was expansion hardware connected to this particular Amiga?

I would like to note that SysTest is now called Amiga Test Kit.

Still available from the same place on Github:

There is already a valid and official download source for ATK directly from Kier's Github page.

So no need to provide an unknown and untrusted source.

There is no binary available to download on Kier's GitHub page (only the source) and I cross compiled it yesterday to provide it for the community! Why do you think this is unnecessary?

Ok! I'm sorry! That was maybe too obvious for me so I missed it! ;-)

Greets leon22

PS: Nevertheless it was fun to build it on my own ;-)
