Best way to connect a Disk-On-Module and DVD drive in an A4000?

Is anyone using both a Disk-On-Module and DVD drive in their A4000 desktop?

If so, how did you mount/connect them to the IDE port?

I'm currently using an externally-accessed CompactFlash card as storage (mounted in the Expansion Slot), and I also have a DVD drive that I'd like to keep available.

However, I bought a Disk-On-Module unit recently, and realized that unless I let the DOM sit loose at the end of the IDE ribbon cable, I need a better way to mount it in order to use both the DOM and DVD drive.

Not Disk-On-Module, but I have a mSATA to IDE module that mounts on a blank PCI card (which you can put in a Zorro slot).

Details here:

I removed my CD/DVD driver years ago as I have ethernet.

I put one of these in my A4000D

http://amiga68k.com/?product=amiga-4000-ide-expansion

you need IDEfix to make the slave channel active for the dvd/cdrom

I used a DOM - A "hyperdisk industrial flash". To get it to work it either goes directly onto the motherboard pins or you need to use two IDE cables connected in a row connected together with male to male gender changers. The reason for this is that if you just use one cable then the pin arrangement is flipped over so you need the second cable to flip them back again. I

I used a standard 2 dual IDE cable then a short length of single port IDE cable attached between the DOM and the 2 way cable.

Oh just been to the link above from Laine- that does look like DOM would plug straight in so would be fine as long as there is space. If you wanted to use all 4 ide devices then you would need the cables I described.

Thanks all for the very helpful replies!

I've ordered the A4000 IDE Expansion that Laine mentioned--looks like this would work very nicely; especially with the floppy port pass-through.

Am I right in assuming that IDEFix is still required with OS 3.1.4.1 even though its scsi.device (which handles the A4000's IDE port) has been updated and improved?

Also, what is the latest/official source for IDEFix? Some older posts seem to indicate that Aminet might not be the place?

My apologies for all the questions; until recently, I'd been out of the Amiga loop, so any help is much appreciated..!

IDE-Fix is needed if you have an IDE channel splitter.

Get the Aminet package for idefix97 and then you can apply the updates from http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/File:Eb_final.lha

Thanks Jope--downloaded.

FWIW, I managed to buy an original IDE-Fix '97 diskette from eBay (real cheap); I figured if there were any key files or registration needed, this diskette should have it.

Quick question on IDEFix:

Does anyone know what the absolute minimum part of the IDEFix package is required to get the 4-way IDE adapter to work?

Do you still need to install all the commands in C:, etc.?

Also, doesn't it conflict with OS 3.1.4's new scsi.device in some way?

Please forgive my ignorance on all this; just this old Amiga user stepping through new territory. :-|

Great, thank you!

(It hadn't been obvious to me, as there are all sorts of critical-looking commands in the archive, and I'm definitely a "noob" to IDEFix).
