What games should the Amiga have had in the nineties?

Nro one strategy game is absolutely Settlers 2. There was a lots of talk about it and some almost promises. https://web.archive.org/web/20010222...tlers2can.html

Carmageddon is also one wich promised to Amiga and it is only car game I have played a lot. http://www.amigaflame.com/amiacar.htm

Resident evil was one of my favorites that time and there was some sort of mock up of that game http://hol.abime.net/5548

I think it'd be more realistic to rephrase it as "What games that could actually run on Amiga should it have had in the nineties?". And I'm not sure either Carma or RE would qualify.

Otherwise we can just say "all the good ones".

14mhz 68020 would have been problem. Resident evil should not be a problem for a 68030 equipped amiga, as it is a pseudo 3d with prerendered backuground. Carmageddon whould have required Amiga wizards to run with 68060, but it would sure run with PPC.

Agreed with everything said above, I'll add a few more:
Master of Magic, Master of Orion 1 and 2.
Heroes of Might and Magic (up to the third installment, if possible).
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
Diablo (if possible... even cut down version).
Fragile Allegiance (it's basically K240 sequal )
And yeah... definitely some Capcoms beat em up... Captain Commando, or Punisher, or Cadilac... it's depressing how Amiga lack beat em up's.

Would have been nice, there is not many car games for those how have more powerfull Amiga. Etreme Racer and VirtualGP are only ones wich are actually nice to play.

I would have liked to see Super Puzzle Fighter on Amiga. I'm sure a version of that would be possible.

Lands of Lore (1&2) and Eye of the Beholder 3 (not a great game, but would've been nice to have the complete series). A bunch of AGA/256 colour versions of some of the PC ports would also have been quite possible and really nice (all the adventures, most of the Westwood stuff).

Almost all of the earlier VGA 2D stuff up to around 1996 should have been possible on the A1200.
Especially adventures.

60830 and up were prosumer models with small install base so possibility of a port - even if possible technically (though you'd need CD for the likes of Resi) - would be minimal, and rather irrelevant.

I agree with the aforementioned major adventure / strategy games, though even those would most likely struggle on A500. I can add Darklands, one of my all time favourite RPGs which maybe could run on A1200.

Not sure about the likes of Baldurs Gate / Fallout, beside the obvious CD requirement would A1200 have enough juice to push their 2D?

I'm pretty sure that most A1200's that were in use in the 1990's got upgraded to 68030 or better and included at least a hard drive. That said, I do think aiming for a base A1200 is probably best.

Probably best not to aim 90's stuff only at the A500. I'd actually argue aiming for the A1200.

Also agree on Baldur's Gate. That would be quite the challenge for unexpanded Amiga's. It does a lot more GFX wise than you'd think. All the particle effects for instance. Remember, this game struggled on relatively fast PC hardware (at the time anyway).

From 1993 - > majority of Amiga hobbyist had a Amiga 1200 and at least 68030 accelerator. Somewhere 2005 - 2010 there started to be some "new comers" who had only Amiga 500, some of them started to thing that boxes and polys are important part of their Amiga hobby.

New Amiga game 1995 should have targeted to Amiga 1200 wich has 68030 accelerator and some fast ram. Most of Amiga games that time was targeted to accelerated Amigas

As far as I am concerned (and the list I made), it can be even 040/060 system requirements. I think that constant trying to get everything works on vanilla 1200, made many dev's skip these ports at the first place.
It's like a shame to having to upgrade your Amiga in order to play some specific game, while on PC, that was always a perfectly normal thing.
I repeat, I wish we had many more ports, even if that means it can only be run on 040/060.

Maybe so, but no publisher would port a big game (and we're talking mostly big here) for a hobbyist market. Even base A1200, with arguably bigger demographic than the subset of folk with accelerators got a cold shoulder after all.

Sure,it's possible to treat it as a hypothetical exercise, eg like with Carma, but I find it more interesting to look at from a realistic angle, like the Settlers 2 you metioned in the OP.

EDIT: @d4rk3lf it has nothing to do with shame but realities of the market. Remember the OP mentions "The Nineties" specifically. Yes, there were some people with tricked out power Amigas back then, which were perhaps capable of running these titles. Were there enough of them to justify investing in a port? Clearly not, because it didn't happen even for the A1200.

Meanwhile on PC it was "perfectly normal" because it was the new dominant gaming platfform and that's where the market/money was.

Quite many games supported better CPUs that time. But of course you are right about market laws.

I'm also more interested about realistic angle. I would hope that somebody could get some inspiration from this thread. I have bought quite many games lately, wich requirements are Amiga 500. Decided that I woun't buy any game that woun't require at least Amiga 1200 and some fast ram.

Yeah, just about everything in BC Racers screams that this should have been an Amiga game. It even looks and feels like it!
