Doesn't the AF Roms also come with a decrypting file, residing in the same drawer as the Kickstarts?

Not on my AF-10 dvd iso, no ... (but I don't have the ultra plus all bells & whistles pack =)

encrypted rom file from iso ;

-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 8203 May 3 2006 amiga-boot-a1000.rom

decrypted rom file after running amigaforever.exe ;

-rw-r--r-- 1 gcb gcb 8192 Apr 20 2023 amiga-boot-a1000.rom

File datestamp changed & filesize (encryption header & salt removed) ; it's actually the encryption header that spawns the unsupported file error I think. The process uses the Amiga Files/Shared/rom/rom.key on the disc as the template (I'm not sure if this is unique per purchase or not).

I don't use windows, so I'm not real sure where things end up under win11 --- pretty good chance I used a winXP profile under WINE ...which back in the day would've been a system-wide install, so the roms end up in c\users\shared\ (so other user accounts have access to copy)....win10/11 might be different, not sure, but it does have a find function, so doesn't matter =)

You legally bought the ROMs. Just download the ones that work from the net. It's not that these are super hard to find and you are allowed to use them.

Have you tried FS UAE @roccomolly? If you are on Linux, you should have no problem getting up and running with the roms you have. It is aware of Amiga Forever and does the transfer process to its folders. There are also lots of YT tutorials to set FSUAE up on YouTube.

@roccomolly

1. Which version of Amiga Forever have you bought ?

2. On some older versions of Amiga Forever, you had to install the programme
to the OS, run Amiga Forever (at least once) to decrypt the ROM files
Have you done this ?

3. I have Amiga Forever Ver 9 (2021).
On this version, the rom files are in the following location =
Amiga Forever ISO/Amiga Files/Shared/rom

4. On a lot of emulators and emulated systems, you may have to rename the rom file,
to the type wanted by whatever programme or emulator that you're using
to run Amiga games and apps.

5. Giant Clam was saying that as he uses Linux as his OS,
he has to use WINE (a type of emulator to run Windows apps) so that he can
run Amiga Forever, to use the Amiga emulator, and activate the rom files.
E.G. Linux OS > WINE (emulator) > Amiga Forever app

6. Remember to use the correct type of Kickstart rom for the specific game or app
you're trying to use.

E.G.

If you want to play R-Type, then you need to use the rom for a A500.
As if you try to run that game on an A1200 it won't work
(as the game is expecting to be run on an Amiga 500)
Which was a Version 1.2 and later a 1.3 rom

Try these two videos with FSUAE and it will give you an idea of what is involved. You have everything you need to set things up.

Youre trying to use the wrong ROM images.
The a590 is a harddrive for amiga500 and the cyberstorm ROMs are ROMs for ppc hardware add-ons. The ones that end in .A500 are ROM images for whdload.
You need to use Kickstart ROMs.
Doesnt matter that theyre encrypted, they'll still work.
You just need to point the path theyre looked for to match the path theyre in.
To reiterate/clarify you need the kickstart ROM images. Theyre the Amiga's kernel. Can't use emulation without them, nor can you use the hardware whose ROMs you tried using without the Kickstart ROMs 1st.

Please define what you mean by roms because so many people get mixed up because emulators have different meaning for roms. Some use roms for the name for game carts and game files. So you might be looking for ADFs and not roms
