Best way to turn Ethernet Plipbox into Wi-Fi Plipbox
I currently have my A500 Plipbox connected via Ethernet cable but need to move it away from the router and go wireless.
What's the best way to turn the Ethernet socket into Wi-Fi? I need to know it won't mess with the precarious settings in the A500 such as IP address, DHCP etc. Thanks!! |

You need to find a wireless bridge. It will connect to your wifi network and provides an Ethernet port for you to connect the Amiga. Many old wireless routers support the DD-WRT firmware which can make it work as a wireless bridge so that could be a cheap option.

I paid something like 50 euro for mine. :-)
Ah well, I understand it's out of production, so prices are what they are. |

By the way, you need to configure it somehow (access point etc). Can't remember how exactly.

You connect to it from a PC through Ethernet and do the config in its web interface. After it is all done, the PC can be disconnected and the Amiga hooked up instead.

Success! Config was really easy using the bridge's web interface.
I now have a Wi-Fi A500! The only bit of tinkering I had to do was with the Plipbox AmiTCP settings, as my 'Google Wifi' router had a different gateway. I had to edit some of the nb* files. Once that was done "it just worked"! Last edited by Starglider 2; 04 February 2017 at 22:34. |
