I imagine a lot of them saw the same thing tried on the 8-bit machines (Imagine's MegaGames and Shadow of the Unicorn on the Spectrum for example) and how badly that worked out. Developing a whole cartridge mechanism from scratch probably wasn't worth the cost, even if it cut down on piracy.

the production cost aspect could be interested to try to investigate
as final (on sales) price, maybe inbetween a trapdoor expansion and a freezer cartridge (there were some extra cheap models)? maybe, if the A500 had been the first model released, i mean without the A1000, someone would have considered the crazy idea |

def another interesting thread in regard
i suppose the 2 megabit (Mb) written in that article is an error, as the final game was in 3 disks; 2MB sounds as the correct value ^EDIT it is written correctly down in the article, 2 megabytes^ that game didn't support the extra drives, maybe the cartridge option was taken in consideration also to avoid loadings and diskswaps Last edited by kremiso; 21 October 2023 at 13:31. |

Something similar https://github.com/cnvogelg/romdisk - not sure but perhaps it can be done as some ROM banking to simulate larger floppy?

The Action Replay has a disk copier like X-Copy but better called Burst Nibbler.
This is basically software on a cartridge. |
