Mac Bootcamp and WinUAE
Hello
I now have a spare drive on my Mac Pro I was considering running Bootcamp and Windows so I can run WinUAE which I have been lead to believe is easier to use and runs a whole load better than the Mac Version E-UAE and Hi-Torro. So here is the question :- Does WinUAE run better than E-UAE & Hi Torro ? Last edited by Washac; 31 January 2012 at 17:46. |

I've read that five times now and I still can't see the question
I have a mac, and despite the progress made with PUAE I still end up running Parallels to run WinUAE: this works surprisingly well. Bootcamp is of course an option: I use it on my mac mini media centre as W7MC utterly rocks. |

So that means to run WinUAE in Parrallels, I would have to layout for Parrallels & Win 7, OUCH! |

WinUAE is the best Amiga emulator out there, on any platform. So running it on Bootcamp would be the best.
Parallels would run OK I guess, but with a performance hit for sure. |

True, you would have to buy parallels... Either way you need Win7.
Parallels was in last year's MacUpdate promo bundle: I think it was about $40 for the lot, which was an utter bargain. V7 came out last year, but 6 works well. There is a slight hit in performance, for sure, as there's an extra layer in there but WinUAE runs perfectly in W7 in parallels on my Macbook pro from 2007... And that's in dual monitor setup with OSX on the laptop display and W7 on a 1600x1200 external screen... |

I assume parallels allows movement of files on my Mac across to Parallels IE: WinUAE and all the game ADFs ? Last edited by Washac; 31 January 2012 at 21:16. |

You don't even need to move them: they can sit on your mac partition. Enable sharing of mac drives and they'll appear in your network on Windows
I hope you're not disappointed: I find it works really well. |

You are all wrong.
WinUAE is based on UAE too. Sure Toni has added great features and it is most advanced than E-UAE-WIP4. Real disk preparation is better on WinUAE. But for runing the workbench or games, they will run as well on E-UAE WIP4 and one thing is sure, they run better than WinUAE under Parrallel. Try to do that on WinUAE : [ Show youtube player ] |

There is a tutorial on youtube in 3 parts done by hungryhorace. he doesn't cover the icon parts but basically it does the same.
I didn't do exactly like him. I just have a workbench installed on a directory drive, the startup-sequence tell to boot a game.slave the I did a script for each games which is the same (only the name change). when I click on 1 icon it copy the game and launch euae (which is going to boot selected game). it may sounds confusing but look at the videos tutorial then you will be able to do it on your own. For the icons I used the xcode tools. it's very simple to do. |

I've also found WinUAE under parallels to be much better option than the native Mac Amiga emulators.
Less frame dropping, plus all the convenience of the extra features Toni's added. WinUAE really is worth it IMO. |

There's no frame dropping with my ibook G4 1,2 Ghz...So you probably don't have the right version or maybe you didn't set openGL !

With my ibook g4 I could not get decent AGA performance no matter what I tried. OCS was no problem though.

Game.slave, xcode tools, directory drive ????? It is simple to do, maybe but we are not all technical in these fields. A link to the Youtube stuff would help also, I do not not know what to search for. Dont worry, sorry to take up your time with this, thanks anyway............ Many thanks for the links, appreciate that Just watched half the first part and he lost me just loading the workbench screen, then he started pointing things out in a script, what to do, what to change etc. Sorry all really means nothing to me, in that I do not even know how he set up the HDs on the card, I have enough trouble sometimes just getting a game to run in UAE without all the clever stuff. Nevermind good idea while it lasted, I will just plod along as usual. Last edited by Washac; 02 February 2012 at 13:17. |

Definitely less hassle, plus WinUAE is updated regularly. With coherence mode, you don't even need to see windows, which is a bonus.
