How did you get games in the glory days?

Just a little bit of memory lane journey for us.

I wondered how you got games in the Amiga glory days, I remember a small independent shop in Pembroke Dock where we got the Amiga 500+ and original games. There was not much choice in this area of Wales, I think my mum would use mail order for me sometimes. We used to get Public Domain disks through mail order from the adverts in Amiga Format. Happy days!

However here is the fun stuff (but its a bit naughty) I remember spending a lot of pocket money on this kid at breaktime/lunchtime who must have had a modem or something. He sold "stuff" for 50p a disk if you provided a blank disk. Or £1 a disk if he provided you a disk. This was around 1991/92 before I left Wales.

I think there were special deals for Monkey Island 2

Well, besides the ones I got for christmas and as a birthday present, I used to 'swap' a lot

I had a good friend that got many disks from 'somewhere' and let me have them (X-Copy, crisps and coke ftw!

). With these it started and then I swapped with everyone I knew. Ah fun times

Although I think *cough* I never bought a game *cough* the whole time I had an Amiga *cough*

Tell a lie, yes I did, I got some games from a shop near me call All's video's. Some were original, but I also suspected some were fake copies, but done extremely well. He used to sell the coverdisks off various magazines too, only to be used as blanks mind, even though the stuff was still contained on the disks. 25p per disk I think he was asking for. It was a long time ago, so my memory is rather vague

Most games for me were swaps, within a working environment, within a whole industrial estate doing the same thing. Everyone who had an Amiga in the estate knew everyone else, so to cut a long storey short, games were plentiful

yeah, same here... got some blurry memories of swapping and buying "originals" without boxes...

In early 90's (my glory days) the nearest shop with originals was in Germany

I used to trade with kids from school, neigbourhood kids that sort of thing. I would buy the occasional game, usually something that required a thick manual or just budget/re-releases. Most of my pocket money went into blank diskettes and amiga magazines. I was kinda lucky as me and the kids I traded with werent the one for one type, we just hooked each other up when we had good stuff and expected the same in return when the shoe was on the other foot. None of us had modems but somehow stuff got circulated.

Hey, I had like... er... 10 originals or so! That would make about 4% I guess

You didnt even have an amiga. You had a BBC micro that you wrote Amiga on with a sharpie. You would pretend it was an amiga by moving a packet of cigarettes around next to it like it was a mouse.

I knew an atari st owner who only had originals, because in our neigbourhood there was nobody to trade with and he was too cheap to buy games, so he only had the games that came with his ST. I felt sorry for him and gave him my collection of "TheOne 16bit" dual format coverdisks.
