ACA 1221 Problems

I recently installed an ACA 1221 in my A1200.

The problem is it's only recognizing an additional 1Mb instead of 9Mb.

How do I fix this problem?

If you have ROM 3.0 it is absolutely normal. Install Acatune and execute it at boot. There should be a small manual in the ACA1221 box that says that in order to use all 9MB you need ROM 3.1 or you have to install Acatune. Hope this helps.

If you have 3.0 roms and have no way of getting acatune installed then add this near the end of your startup-sequence
addmem 08000000 087fffff

Hello. I have an aca1221. You need to install acatune and then have a couple lines in your startup sequence. Otherwise it shows you have 1mb.

You should also have acacontrol installed so you can set the clockspeed.

Use ACAClock & ACA1221.library instead. ACAControl has builtin clockspeed capabilities for testing purposes only.

I have the new ACA 1221 card and ACATune on an A1200 3.0 Rom system. I understand the problem with it only seeing the first 1 MB. What syntax do I need to put in the startup sequence for example ACATune -<option> <argument> to see the extra Ram?

The instructions don't seem very clear on this...am I missing something?

Just add "C:ACATune >NIL:", it will then just add extra ram.

That's great...simple and to the point

I don't want to hijack the thread but I was also looking for clarity on the 'timing' issues? I have a MOBO with those 'nasty' components that need to come off.

I have the equipment and competence to remove them BUT do they really need to go for the sake of a few timing issues on some games and demos?

I'm reluctant to mess around with my aging A1200 and possibly damage tracks on the motherboard. If they HAVE to go are the simply removed and the circuit tracks left open?

Does your mahcine boot and work fine with your ACA card. No crashing etc etc. If the answer is yes, then you do not need to do anything.

Seeing the extra memory now. Chucked a few demos and games and all seems fine. Might upgrade the clock speed soon....not so worried about unlocking the extra memory just for WHD games though.

Just waiting for my new long IDE cable to come in the post for my CF cards and im in cloud amiga land

Been waiting for a decent low cost accelerator option and the ACA 1221 is spot on for me!

Had my Amiga hooked up to my 42" TV for several hours and had no problems running games and demos (apart from the odd one that gave me trouble before I installed my new A1221 anyway).

SYSinfo is showing that my basic card (020@ 17Mhz, 9 MB ram) is only marginally slower than a 25Mhz 030 on an A3000....is that right? Demos and games seem to be running super smooth ...what a great little card this is

Think I might shell out to unlock the upgrades.....not sure how to pay for the upgrades though

Not sure how you're going to find the funds or not sure how to go about it?

They're not timing issues as regards software incompatibility, more low-level signalling issues that affect the stability of the computer. They can cause issues with accelerator boards that run close to the timing limits and you'll see crashes, refusal to boot and all sorts of weirdness if that's the case.

Yep, they're just left open. They are pretty simple to remove but as FOL said, there's no need if it's working ok.

Go here and choose upgrades, then checkout. I can't remember if it's Paypal or CC though.

EDIT: It's Paypal or Wire Transfer

Just ordered the whole unlock for around £30! Once I get it I'll let you know how much better the card is

Got my unlock code and now have a full spec aca1221
Really pleased and enjoying super smooth demos and nippy workbench.
Highly recommended upgrade and well worth the modest outlay. Had my A1200 running all day with no problems......how is this machine STILL working after all these years!.....wonder how many ipads will still be working in 20 years
