Booty (ZX Spectrum)
The very first screen. Managing to clear the screen was very difficult - but sooo rewarding when you managed it. Project X (Amiga) The fire level (level 3 I think) - very pretty (when you managed to get that far) Bomberman 93 (PC Engine) Level 2 had such awesome music. So good in fact that I recorded it and made an MP3 out of it. That level was also the most colourful and fun. Pinball Dreams (Amiga) Table 4 (Nightmare) was always my favourite ever since I got a demo of it on the front of Amiga Power. |

Apidya - Techno Level!
Awesome game, easily one of the best shooters on the Amiga and the techno level looked and sounded wicked. |

The engine sound was meaty, really made you feel like you were BATMAN; if you drove well it left everything else for dead; and that metalic 'chink' (so reassuring) when your grappling hook caught the lamppost, was sweet. Then there were the humps and dips in the road which could cause you to take off (great sound when you landed - that Batmobile has the best suspension); with skill you could get your speed up and leap right over the tops of cars! To do that and take a corner by Bat-hook a moment later gave a sensation of smugness that was hard to beat! And yes, the music was great, matched it perfectly. The final level was nice too. I loved swinging on the batrope, and the way you could learn to control the 'pendulum' of it, so to speak, to neatly avoid bombs and what not. It was a lovely sound effect - a very satisfying 'bop' - when you knocked enemies off ledges to their deaths (he-he, Batman is dark, after all). Especially satisfying was to hit enemies from long range (the longer the better, I thought) with the batrope - and still more satisfying to get them right in the kisser! YEAH - YOU'RE MACHINE GUN AIN'T NO USE TO YOU NOW, IS IT?! Great music again; the subtle organ tone that kept you in mind of the cathedral location, almost soothing but didn't increase in tempo or volume as time ran out. I think that was very apt, in keeping with a character who keeps cool at all times - sort of put me into a 'Batman' mindset! Oh, and topping it off was the 'must hit first time', super-long, batrope attack at the Joker - sending him on his long, long, fall! Woo-hoo! |

Best ever level
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned Cannon Fodder. Could it be because this game drove people nuts?!
My friend and I played this to death because we're both as anal as one another and wanted to complete it without losing a single soldier. No kidding! Sadly my discs became corrupt at about level 16 (of, I think, 20). One of the 'best' levels i.e. most likely to drive us insane because it was so hard (and didn't the designers know it) was, IIRC, level 7, 'Round and round the garden'. It was an ice and snow level and you had to swim to a central island (which had an igloo in the centre), take command of a snowmobile, and drive round shooting the guys who fired rockets at you. If you stopped for a moment, you'd get blown up, hence you ended up madly skidding and sliding round and round...and round and round, the igloo! So manic and funny! Great game, great graphics and smooth feel e.g. how you could leap out of a snowmobile and let it run over an enemy soldier as it slid to a halt, spreading him over the snowy landscape in a red smear! Later levels, in the English countryside, with farmers wandering around shouting, "Git orf moi laand!" What a game. |

Most memorable levels in games
Hello!
What are your most memorable levels in games you liked? For me i can think about this: Shinobi (Mission 2, level 2 (inside the ship) and Mission 3, level 3 (all ninja level)) Gods (level 2, must be the greatest level i ever played in any 2d game) Dungeon Master (The level with the fire staff (might be level 6 ?)) Eye of the beholder 2 (the first 3 underground levels) Ultima Ascension (underwater gargoyle level) Deux ex (china level) Vampire bloodlines (Ocean House Hotel, must be the best level ever done in a 3d game) |
