Acorn Archimedes A3000/A3010 wanted
I appreciate this would be better placed on an Arc forum but cant really find any, i was passed a link to one by a member here but cant seem to see anything about a forum many other cool Arc stuff and links though
anyway to the add..... I really would like to add an Acorn Archimedes to my computer collection and intreaged if anyone who logs in here would possibly have one they would sell, i would mainly be after an A3000 but would consider an A3010 also im not to fussed on the condition of the keyboard but the case must be in good condition no yellowing or marks from schools etc, willing to pay a reasonable price for a working unit. Thanks |

I know a local school who had quite a few of those A3000's. I'll have to ask sometime and see if they still have them

It was some time ago, makes me feel really old! I even asked my old High School if they had their Amiga A1500's/500's a few months back. Only like 17 years ago since I last laid my eyes on them The technician seemed amazed someone would ask!

We had great fun making the A5000's talk in our Design and Technology lessons. I seem to recall us having Acorn RISC PC 600s in the library during Year 10 and 11. Apparently, they were sent to us without the PC part (ROM chip?) in the computer and had to be sent back to Acorn. This may have been 1994-96 but RISC OS didn't half look good - very clean and stylish design. |

For me it was the BBC model B in primary then in year 7-11 the A3000 and some A3010's, its a shame they went the way they did but at least the Arm chip lives on

@All,
I haven't reneged on this deal. My A3000 Is still available, but it's developed a fault which may have been there all along. When I acquired it, I was also given an Acorn AKF12 monitor to go with it which was described as "wonky". I was not able to get the A3000 working with a TV as monitor, but when I tried it out with the Acorn monitor, it worked perfectly! When I agreed that Chris could have it, I stripped, cleaned and tested it. Then I thought I would try again to get it working with a TV. I succeeded in this by applying external D.C. voltage to the TV SCART 'AV Mode' and 'Blanking' pins. It remains to be seen whether the A3000 has a suitable source available internally. Shortly after this, however, the fault developed, and in this state the video output could indeed be described as "wonky", but it's definitely not the monitor at fault. I have not used this machine at all for long periods before, and this may be why the fault has not appeared until now. Obviously I can't let it go in this state, but I am hopeful that it can be fixed. Here is the machine running the Lander Demo on the AKF12 monitor shortly before the fault appeared: |

Always wondered. Who made the Acorn machines and how did the BBC end up with their name on them? Did they just do the funding or something?

Erm, Acorn.
The BBC wanted to produce BBC branded equipment for an educational program called "BBC Computer Literacy Project". Companies put in a tender, Acorn submitted the Acorn Proton and won. It got renamed the BBC Micro and that as they say is that. |

Sorry Peter I should have mentioned that, Prowler in no way backed out on this deal as we where all set to go ahead but then under testing this fault became clear peter had not used this for sometime after getting another risc machine
We are hoping to still go ahead if it can be fixed but I am interested in any acorn/risc hardware or software anyone may have, will also send you a pm about something I seen the other day peter Chris |

We found an Acorn A7000 at a school today. It was still in regular use and had survived all the kids in the nursery for the past 15 years! (now replaced with PC). Just required a new CD-ROM/HDD to get her working properly as the old drive had bad sectors. It was the top of the line 7000 which was £895 new... ouch!
