I know what you mean about that second boss. What's the point in that? - (apart from making you put more money in)
I just played it yesterday for the first time - and it has immediately become a name! :thumbs_up Batrider needs more memory than I have (64mb) to work well, but it DID nearly give me an epileptic fit, even at a low frame rate, so that's got to be good... |

Yes Birdy, why would it annoy purists? It's damned pure shmup fest in there!
One awesome game, gotta get it for me Saturn soon! |

I thought that some people might not like it because it is almost too good!

Llamatrpm
Damn, i forgot llamatron. arghh! I can't choose between this and missile command I'm afraid. Llamatron manages to get the thing right that so many modern games don't, namely the playability. It's such a frantic blast-fest and so addictive my arm used to get tired before i could stop myself from playing. Very nice gameplay and soo addictive.

I have a bit of a fetish with a shmup called Dangun Feveron. It has a bit of a '70s disco theme!

feveron is THE BEST Cave shmup IMO. One awesome, fast--paced, manic game.
About R-Type Leo, I dont like it that much, but it's still a good game. It went a bit too far away from the original concept IMO. |

There's something pretty wrong with those newer versions of Raine. In the 1st version that could run Armed Police Batrider, it worked with my 32Mb P233 without problem, I just needed to turn off sound, and I got an acceptable rate of 35/60 frames
Now in those newer versions, it just refuses to run. And If I'm not mistaken, Cave and Psikyo shmups were running faster in Mame.. About R-Type Leo, unfortunately it runs too slow in my machine, so I can't rate it. I prefer vertical shmups to horizontal ones, but a horizontal one that I really LOVE (and it's not R-Type) , is Space Manbow in MSX. |

Only today I've played Guwange..
man, it's G-R-E-A-T !!! I've played for like 1 hour, and it isn't far of being my fav Cave shmup. Everyone download Raine and get this game (if you have a PC good enough for it) there's probably a review of it in www.shmups.com |

And yes, I knew about the Lotus 3 version as well. I think the game exists in one of the Lotus console games (but I can't remember which games in the series were converted to Mega Drive, Lotus 2 is the only one I know of that got released on the machine) as well. |

I can't decide on a outright favourite - so I will split into 2 catergories ! Vertical Scrolling & Horizontal Scrolling.......
Vertical scrolling would have to be Xenon II - great music, OK graphics and good playability. Nice enhancements such as humourous shop and weapons. Horizontal would be Silkworm (predecessor to SWIV). I just loved the sound effects & destroying everything ! I can still here the Phwoooooom explosion sound now. |

These shooters were my fave games from when I first got an MSX when i was 4 (now just 21 )
I loved every Nemesis game and still like em now. My fave is Disposable Hero on the Amiga - having trouble making it work on emu tho so no screenies It had great gameplay, many weapons - slightly diff where u had choice over what to put on your ship as u went through the game and u had to compromise and stuff It had music that I would play the game just to hear - especially lvl 3 and best of all it was nice and hard! Well on arcade setting anyway. Trouble with most of these shooters is they are too easy.. Someone mentioned banshee here which at the time was regarded excellent and hard - I finished it on hardest on my very first go! time goes on = games get easier and new shooters are just waaay over the top i think - all special effects and messy |

oh great, another MSX user in the board
If you want something more Nemesis-based for Amiga , get Apidya. That's for me the best horizontal shmup available for our old miggy, and one of the finest ever done. |

C64 - Armalyte , this was the best bar none ,fantastic graphics cool coding to get more than triple the alowable sprites on screen ,great tunes and and end sequence , the amiga version just lacked a 'something' (Also note worthy on the c64 is Katakis ,Nemesis ,Salamander (a great conversion),Silkworm (2 player fun), retrograde ,1942 ,crazy comets & zybex they dont make like they used to)
Amiga - hmm I really liked Battle Squadron , cool two player game with extras & nice music , also note worthy are (xenon 2, Project X,Apidya, better dead than alien , Menace ,wings of death, ,r-types,st dragon,Wings of fury,) cant think of anymore... |
