You would be suprised, lots of users always used their machines for games when they were kids.

The diminishing minority of us were "power users" back in the day. Just about everyone had an unexpanded A500/600/1200 as a games machine in those times. |

Introducing ACA 1221 Low Cost Accelerator At AmigaKit.com
As a poor student I had an a500 with 512k expansion and external floppy drive that I bought in about 92. I'd have loved a hdd but they where insanely expensive.

I give full credit to all involved for producing this. Far too much negativity here. Also I suspect AmigaKit know their market fairly well after all these years and actually this forum represents the minority of Amiga users. There's a whole load more outside of this little garden of Amiga
I could well be up for buying one as my current board is slightly flakey even though my Amiga is almost solely a Whdload machine these days. Not a waste to me. It's used regularly, I enjoy it, Amiga power using days are long behind me. Good work all at Individual & AmigaKit. |

Most people want the amiga to run games with whdload, so this is more than enough, enough memory to run WB and whdload. It's the cheapest way to get things running.

Yeah, my sentiment too, if WHDLoad is the goal, then I probably have a handfull of systems capable, and I have yet to install WHDLoad on any if them. I see Jens say that the ACA630 sold too slowly, but honestly, it sold out before I managed to get one. Or maybe that was a different ACA630.

I don't get the underclock to 9.46 MHz part. On the PC back in the old days it made sense to underclock because really old software ran too fast. But this doesn't seem to ever have been a problem on the Amiga.

9.46MHz is the slowest that the ACA1221 runs safe at, and since clock rates can be switched on the fly, it also helps saving power and reducing heat. We have a "CPU govenor" program that watches the CPU load and dynamically switches between clock rates. If the CPU is idle, it's clocked down to 9.46MHz, and if you give it some load, it'll crank up to the highest frequency that your card is licensed for (up to 28.38MHz). You're right that most WHDload games have been fixed to run on faster machines. With the ACA1221 being meant for building WHDload machines, the feature appears like mental masturbation. Maybe it is - I'm an Amigan, and "because we can" has always been a good answer to technical specialties like this :-) Jens |

Why do people complain about having more choices and features ?
If someone likes/needs something - he can use it. If someone doesn't like/need something - he can ignore it. |

The CPUs of the ACA1221 are of course NOT in a socket, as the sockets would cost more than the CPUs.
ACA500plus is in development - No detailed information, as the featureset is not fully clear yet. Same applies to the ACA1221EC. Jens |

Any remote possibilty exist for a future CD32 expansion, perhaps something similar to ACA500 that accepts ACA1221 type accelerators?

Maybe someone could simply(?) do a CD32 184pin --> ACA500 adapter. ;-)

It's not that simple, but I've thought of that a number of times. It's possible, it's not too complicated, but I already have a pretty full schedule. ACA500plus and Amiga Reloaded have much higher priority.

The thing with these deals, that seem great to the unsuspecting customer, is that the lowest base price has already paid for the full hardware with everything enabled, with profit margins. Anything you pay to activate more features is just extra profit.
