Question on the supersampling setting

Hi Toni,

Unfortunately I can't find all the answers on the forum. A few quick questions on the supersampling setting in the filter tab (the 1x,2x,3x,4x next to "reset defaults"):

1. Why is it called "supersampling", does it do more than prescaling by 2x, 3x, or 4x?
2. Is the supersampling setting ignored (not applied) when the "null filter" is selected?
3. Would it make sense to add a "0" setting to the supersampling menu, which would skip the whole the prescaling / supersampling routine? The goal being that custom shaders can replicate the "null filter" output / there's a true 1x scaling mode with custom shaders active.

It would be great if you could shine a light in the forest

There must be some misunderstand because it only selects shader output render to texture size multiplier (same as internal buffer size, 2x= 2*larger and so on), which is then finally output and scaled to screen.

Check texture sizes reported in the log for details.
