It has been very difficult. I've cut the sockets without problems, but it wasn't working.
Finally I noticed that when I inserted the sockets in the Fast Ata I bent a pin of it. Unfortunately that pin got broken... So I've had to desolder all the socket of the Fast Ata and solder another. That is what has been difficult. Well, now its working. BTW you have to make a lot of pressure to completely insert the pins for a good contact, even in my case that I filed the pins. mine would not work so i pushed the pins into the rom sockets first then put fastata on after. but need to trim a bit more. does your keyboard miss the fastata when installed |

Modification in this thread looks as if is prone to HR,I will do a test as soon as possible, but it looks like round pin sockets should be mounted on the motherboard first like all my motherboard(s) for best possible contact.
Does the indivision need a fan? I have this card but have never used it. |

nope, not if you're using the wirewrap sockets like i did, they actually wont fit at all in round pin sockets as they're square. if you still have your old original sockets, you're actually better off using the wirewrap sockets. they make excellent contact that actually allowed me to increase the PIO number without errors.

I will do a test before I comment any further in this thread, but one thing I like to point out is,if the pins are too long their are prone to break after a short while if card is removed too many times.
Here I can remove the FastATA card over 100 times and still going with no damage to the pins and no H/R. NOTE: with round pin you can change a single pin if it breaks, just put a iron to it and push out. Do the same to a replacement pin. You can also remove a single pin with pliers if you are will trained with little or no damage to the holder. |

i suspect the round pins would be more prone to breakage risk than the wirewrap because of thickness. dont forget though, the fastata has round pins that connect into the wirewrap socket (which has a round reciever, but square pins). the fit is so tight between the wirewrap extension and the mobo socket, you may aswell remove the ata from the wirewrap sockets instead of remove the whole thing, wirewrap sockets and all from the mobo.
edit, I think i already said this elsewhere, but the wirewrap sockets are so snug that i have no need for zip ties at all now. before i had the Indivision i was getting connection problems, crashes, and having to re seat it daily. now it works first time, every time and even with more speed! |

My motherboard has round pins,I use FastATA card as part of testing my set-up. I remove the the card at lease 15 times a day,but its being some while since I damage a pin.
You have to remove card a certain way not to damage pin or pins, but as I pointed out, you can change a single pin. Maybe I should have pointed out my FastATA does not use the second link card/socket. The remaining signals are connected in a different way,so my FastATA I just need to plug it into the rom socket and nothing else. Last edited by delshay; 30 August 2012 at 20:54. |
