Any recommended internal PS2/USB Mouse products/mods for A1200?
Hello everyone. I am new here so I apologize ahead of time if this is not in the correct area.
I am looking to use a mouse w/ click-wheel on my A1200 but the price of the cocolino is a tad steep (and I'd rather not have an adapter on an adapter if I use a USB mouse). My question is this: Are there any cheaper products/mods I can attempt (newb) for such a function? An optical w/ click-wheel via internal modification on my A1200 desktop is my main goal. Thank you all in advance! |

There are free projects on Aminet that are PIC 16F84 microcontroller based and are easy enough to assemble. I'm not 100% sure that they support the wheel function though.

This seems like a nice option. Are there any reviews of this? Does anyone else have this installed? The scroll-wheel/optical works ok?
Thanks for the tip! |

I purchased one of these on ebay but I cannot get my USB optical mouse to do anything at all. I have freewheel placed into my WB startup and I am using Workbench 3.1 on my A1200.
Any thoughts on the matter? Am I missing something here? It seems to be a plug-and-play USB device, not plug-and-paperweight. |

I just contacted another user of this device who cannot get the USB to work and was just informed that the seller claims the USB usage is hit-or-miss, without any sort of proof. They say that it may not work with certain boards or mice but I do not understand how this is possible as it's only going into the joy/mouse port.
Does anyone besides the seller use an optical or USB mouse with this device? Can we get a list of mice that actually work via USB? |

Your USB mouse must support PS/2 legacy mode. Most (all?) Amiga USB mouse adapters are really only PS/2 adapters with a USB connector. To be a true USB->Amiga mouse adapter would require an expensive chip with a USB host controller.
Try to use a USB->PS/2 adapter on your PC (remember you need to reboot windows) and it doesn't work then that mouse won't work on Amiga adapter either. |

Hmm, no such luck on the PS/2 port for the laptop.
I'll try an adapter into an adapter. This makes complete sense and saved me from a huge potential headache. Thank you! So just to make sure I'm on the same page, there's essentially USB (new) and USB (PS/2 mode), and that the Amiga/this device will not support USB (new) but will support USB (PS/2 mode)? With the exception of testing on a PC w/ the adapter how would I know if the USB optical mouse supports PS/2 mode? Is this usually a listed feature? |

Try looking around for an older USB mouse that comes with a USB-to-PS/2 adapter, there's a good chance those ones will all work. A lot of them used to come with one of these adapters as standard back when PCs still came with PS/2 ports.
I suppose you could also get a Subway but then the mouse will only work in Workbench/applications and a few games that multitask, it won't work in WHDLoad games or floppy games like your USB-to-9pin adapter will. But at least with the Subway you can use all sorts of modern input devices if you use your Amiga for anything other than games. |

I have one of these, and it works perfectly with my Logitech USB optical mouse, on my A1200, and my A3000.
But yes, the mouse must support legacy mode, but I'm pretty sure that all Logitech mice do. At least, all 5 that I own do. Good luck! |
