Did they forget throttle controls in After Burner?

I'm talking about the US version, written by the awesomely-named Jeff Spangenberg:

As far as I can tell, there's no way of actually using throttle in the game. The readout is there but the manual doesn't mention it at all (see pic). I tried using the instructions from the PC version (both keys and joystick) but they do nothing. I'm stumped. It's not like there were a lot of features to include, surely they can't just have forgotten?

Uusing WinUAE, both alt keys and the home key increase the throttle (although without any actual after burner animation..). There doesn't seem to be a decrease throttle button.

Ooh yeah. At first I thought the right Alt was doing braking, but I think that just coincided with me getting hit and crashing

Weird to not have a control for slow, though.

in the whdload gamepage there is a 'keyboard handling rewritten' note, but i dont know if the us version is supported

maybe worth a check too?

I'm already using the WHDLoad version, labelled "AfterBurner_v1.0_0095.lha".
