Street Rod 2
After beating the King in the final race, I get the following assertion error:
while reading Disk 1. Since all the available Quartex Disk 1 adf images have this issue, I'm wondering if anyone can provide an image of Disk 1 either from an original or a non-Quartex crack? Last edited by demoniac; 04 March 2017 at 22:27. |

Would you believe i found a original Disk 2 but no Disk 1! Have you tried the version hacked by PRX? Maybe the hack they did was to repair the game so its finishable.

I tried all the versions that were on Planet Emulation including the PRX one, which they just added a bootblock intro on how they spread the wares. I also tried KS1.2, 1.3, and 2.05 just to see if it would work.

If you upload it to the Zone, I can try comparing contents to see if they are different. I'm on a new computer, so I haven't fired up the emulator for a while.

Thanks, I got it. I'll take a look and hope to return with some answers in a week or so.

QTX is missing a couple of CLI commands. The Gonz Street Rod II executable was imploded. Comparing the hex values, there are a lot of differences. Not sure if they are caused from Imploder.
Next time, I'll trying running the Gonz crack. |

I tried several things so far, but so far no difference. I'll have to beat the King again using Gonz version, but first I need to locate my gamepad as the controls are abysmal on keyboard.

I finally got around to beating the King again, which isn't trivial, with the Gonz version. Nope, same assertion error, which is what I expected.

Strange... is this the same on the original? Would be interesting to see if it's due to 'protection' or simply a failure in the original code!

I'm quite sure this has nothing to do with the (very simple) manual protection. It looks like this game hasn't been tested very well. The code is full of debug routines which normally are disabled in release builds.

Most probably, it's just a matter of finding out what's causing the assert. If I can be bothered to play this game to the end I may have a look. But the controls are indeed quite horrible so it's no real fun.

I have a save file from floppy, which will get you to the King. You would have to beat him in 3 races and Mulholland Drive is a challenge.

What debugging tool would you use for this?

Alright, SRIIsave.7z in the Zone. I have included both the save game files loose and Disk 2 with the saves.
The load menu only shows 2 saves -- TRAINER and KING, but there are 3 *.sav files: StreetRodA.sav should be the modified trained save game that I didn't use. StreetRodC.sav should be my save game right before the King. StreetRodB.sav seems to refer to C, but I'll let you confirm what it does. Like I wrote earlier, Mulholland Drive (race 2) is a pain. There's road construction where you need to slow the car below 60 MPH. |
