ClassicWB ADVSP on a 1080 Monitor

Due to space issues I've had to switch from using my 20" NEC Multisync monitor to using my old Amiga 1080 monitor with my 1200. I was running ClassicWB ADVSP and it worked just fine on my Multisync, but now I've noticed that it flickers really bad on the 1080 (still looks good though). I think the issue is the interlacing, because if I go to a non-interlaced mode the flickering goes away. The problem is then that the workbench doesn't all fit nicely on one screen.

Is there a way to make the Hi-Res Interlaced mode work on a 1080 monitor? Failing that, are there any other screen modes that will fit the entire picture on the 1080 without having to scroll around?

Hi,

You'll need a flicker fixer like the DCE Flicker Magic or Indivson AGA and then you should bet a nice flicker free picture. (It should work on the 1084 as they de-interlace the signal however I've not personally tested it)

I would suggest this setup with a CRT Monitor anyway for the best results or you could try an LCD Monitor but not all of them will work 100% with the above flicker fixers.

If you are going to stick with the 1084 I'd suggest using Classic Workbench Full, I know its not as pretty but it is setup for the non interlaced screen modes.

Steve.

It is not possible to use flicker fixer with PAL/NTSC video-only monitors or to get rid of interlace flickering (without using non-laced modes).

There are a couple of things you can do to reduce the flickering, but not eliminate it completely until you get another monitor.

First, you could use NTSC instead of PAL, which still flickers, but flickers faster! It makes the flickering slightly less noticable.

The best solution would be to switch your screenmode to 16 colours and use the MagicTV patch from Aminet. ClassicWB won't look too good in 16 colours as it is, so you'll have to edit and lock the palette. Since you're using ClassicWB ADVSP, I guess you're using Scalos, and in this case you need to use a special locked palette for it. I'll go and lock the palette and come back and post it.

Anyway, here's MagicTV - http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/magictv2

If you want to keep ClassicWB in 16 colours, open the Scalos Palette preferences from the Settings > Scalos > menu, and load in this preset - http://home.exetel.com.au/amiga/ScalosPalette.pre
