Action Replay ROMS (100%)
Well, someone might ask now: "What does he want now again?!"
But while talking with Toni about a related issue, I got the info that the first 8 bytes of the AR roms contain random data if ripped with a software ripper. What we could need (CAPS guys listen, too! ) is a 100% AR dump ripped with a hardware ripper. Does this already exist and/or is this possible to do? I think as CAPS are now able to preserve ANY game 100%, so this might be a suggestion (not a real request!) to consider this in the future. Maybe with original manual and all. |

The first 8 bytes
have always been $4e74,$4e74 then the String "ACTION REPLAY AMIGA MK III".... etc, etc.
If its was eight random bytes, then the string "ACTION" would be screwed up! I think someones telling you fairy stories! |

Byte 0 is used by ROM code to detect the AR activation type, Amiga reset, freeze button or breakpoint, also writing to bytes 6 and 7 is used to switch chip RAM back to 0x0.
You are right, bytes 4-7 clearly come from ROM when reading.. I don't know why I forgot that.. Strange logic... -> at least byte 0 can't be data from ROM. (at least not always..) Thats why I'd like to see real rom dump to confirm it. |

Ok, lets change "random" to "something that is not from ROM"
I now have proof that first 4 bytes are not read from ROM: First 4 bytes contain 4e74 4e74 when using freeze button and typing "M 400000" and 4e75 4e75 when AR was activated by break point. and I was wrong again, status register is byte 1, not byte 0 (0 is used to hide AR ROM when exiting) |
