How many Amigas are still there in 2011?

Hi,

what do you estimate how many devices exist yet?

I'm not sure but it looks like Commodre sold "only" 2 million A-500 ...

I own 5 x A500 and i'm sure i "wasted" 10 machines in the past...

So the machine should go rare the next years (esp. devices in good conditions).

Well, most certainly there are a lot less around. Some of them have been stuffed in dusty lofts, or forgotten somewhere. But most of the have certainly been trashed, and that's a real shame

As for general availability on the market, IMHO, people need to stop hogging consoles. I mean, who really needs 8 A1200, a few CD32 and 6 A600 or such, when he/she's probably going to use only one?

I love Amigas too, but one of every model is enough for me, even if just for display

And that makes the market prices skyrocket.

...And it's also the reason why I don't still have an A400D

Well spares always come in handy.

I have a fully working a500 and a1200 plus an a600 and a1200 that both have dodgy disk drives. And finally a a2000 that a very much a work in progress but will get there when i find the time.

75 x A500

But most of them are def/dirty/...

my total Amiga collection is

2XA500
2XA600
2XA1200

one good machine, one spare/repair of the above (i combined units to get a best version)

also a CD32

I never bothered with spares, still have these: A500, A1200, A2000, A3000, A4000.

so in total 8 Amigas. But as jbenam said, I only use 2 or 3 of them.

I guess from the 2 million sold a-500s only 100.000 exist today... perhaps sometime somebody will re-release this machine

i mean the parts (chips, case, ...) are really cheap to produce today.

Given that the A500 is unlikely to be re-released in anything like it's former guise (with floppy drive, etc.), the closest you'll get to a modern day equivalent is the Minimig.

Very much true. I doubt we will ever see anything released except in name only. Not mentioning any comapnies lol.

I have a 600 and 1200 sat at home. The 600 is about to be modded to bring some more life into it. The 12 has just the CF HDD installed. I don't like hording machines, I don't have the space anyway, so if I buy anything it will be to replace broken hardware only.

Oh, there are > 100000 unsold / unbinned Amigas yet. What % of those will actually go on sale is anyone's guess... but the trend so far is that most try a sale before binning, and most ones on sale get sold. So I don't actually see A500/A600/A1200 going rare very soon. Still plenty of CD32s available for basically everyone that wants them.

The other models are much more rare already, although I can't really say it requires more than a month or so of patience to find one. But that's with Amibay.com etc, with ex-collectors selling off spare ones. THAT kind of thing might trickle down in a few years.

What is also getting rare is expansions - but Jens Schönfeld is fixing that right up! We should hire bodyguards, what if something should happen to him
