2.5" to 3.5"
Hi!
I have tried to install an Amiga 1200 80GB 2.5" HD to a desktop PC using an adaptor. I have tried all the possible ways of installing it (adding jumpers, changing cables master to slave and CS).The bios doesn't recognize the drive. I don't know if this HD needs extra power supply? If so how? There is no power connector on the drive instead there is one on the adaptor. It's a Sanmung 80GB 8MB cache |

2.5" to 3.5"
on the first pic (notebookcables etc) the 40 pin connector doesn't match the IDE cable of the PC cos there is one pin in the middle which shouldn't exist in order to fit so this adapter is off anyway. If you look at the 2nd pic it is excactly the same but the power connector in the one i used is missing. In Greece where i live it is quite diffcult to find such gadgets!!Beleive me i looked all around Athens to hardly find these adapters.

Have you connected the power connector? I guess you have. have you connected the IDE cable the right way (pin 1 to pin 1)?
Here a link to the Samsung HD.(jumper settings) |

And of course you need the power connector. The 2.5" cable has 44 pins and the 3.5" has 40. The missing 4 pins are for power. If you don't connect the power, the drive will not spin. |

You're right but i don't understand where this power connector fits?. The power cable doesn't seem to fit on the drive! It's to big. The 4 spare pins of the drive are for jumpers or not?

The power connector connects to the power supply. A 2.5" drive gets its power through the IDE cable, a 3.5" drive has a seperate power connection. As the adapter makes the 2.5" drive be a 3.5" drive, you have to connect it the same way as a 3.5" drive: IDE cable plus power cable. The power cable feeds the power into the 2.5" IDE connection.

You have to connect it to the PSU of your computer. Than it will work. IDE channels of a PeeCee don't give you any power supply.
Thomas typing is quicker then mine. |
