MiamiDX GG2+
Right then. I need to network my Amiga to my PC properly. I've got a HydraII card. I've got a GG2+ board which activates the ISA slots in my big fat A4000T. I have drivers to use NE2000 compatible network cards via the GG2+. All well and good.
The problem is that the Hydra and NE2000 cards use BNC connectors. I would have to connect them to the PC by using a second BNC-laden card in the PC. Not ideal. I'd much prefer to use RJ45's through a hub. The only ways I can do this is are by: a) buying another Amiga network card. b) getting hold of a 15-pin D to RJ45 connector somehow. c) using one of the Etherlink III ISA cards I've got. There is a driver available for the EtherlinkIII cards through the GG2+ board, but it is an MNI driver for MiamiDX (I have AmiTCP4 which only uses SANA-II drivers). MiamiDX cannot be registered anymore as the author apparently had his Amiga harddrive die and lost the registration key generation program. Attempts at contacting him by various people have failed. Here's the thing...is there a cracked MiamiDX, or is there an available registration code somewhere? Or must I spend the rest of my days resetting the Amiga after 30 minutes to get the network connection back up? |

Yep, the AUI tranceiver is the way to go to get the old cards on a modern net. As for the cracked Miami, not sure where to look for that one. I seem to remember a Spirit module that would make keyfiles, but that's on my old A3000 so I can't check.

Most 10/100 switched hubs will have a BNC connecter on them (at least the 8-port 10base hub and the 4-port 10/100 that I have, do...), so you can use 10base2 BNC for the Amiga and 10/100baseT RJ45 for the PC's.
Much cheaper than linking the BNC ports with tranceivers... And if you link the BNC's to a 10Base hub, and then link that hub to the 10/100 switched hub via UTP, then you can still transfer at full speed between the 100Base PC cards. |

Also note that if you decide on using thin-net cabling you will need a T connector at each end with 50 Ohm terminators to get it to work properly. This kind of network is nice in that the length of the total cabling can be pretty long indeed. The downside is that you will get lots of packet collision

There is a cracked keyfile for MiamiDX - it was in one of the later Devious Tools releases (number 198, or near there).
