Where do the assigns come from?
The beginning of startup-sequence sets up some assigns. But where did C: S: or SYS: get set up?

I think it's determined by the bootblock. SYS: is automatically assigned to whatever device you boot from and the other assigns are derived from that.

C:, L:, S:, DEVS:, LIBS:, FONTS: and SYS: are by KickStart by default set to specific directories or to root. If there is not specific directory it will be assigned to root.

Almost. These two do not set assigns, they are called (indirectly) through RUN and NEWCLI. But this is a boot shell, so it comes from the private CliInit(). Actually, as of 3.2, it comes from System-Startup, a new system component, and CliInitNewCli() is phased out and now longer used, so there is only one CLI startup code left, namely CliInitRun(), which is consistently used for all shell creation, including the boot shell. |
