Vertical IDE Flash module 44Pin 4GB

Nice neat CF solution vertical IDE Flash module 44Pin 4GB.

Only downside that I can see, is that you couldn't swap stuff with a PC as easily.

That is not a CF, it is an IDE SSD module. These have been around for many years now, they are not very cheap.

Won't this preform exactly the same function as a CF + CF to IDE adapter? The idea is that this little sucker will provide both functions in one neat package.

Transcend makes those too (see here). I can't see any reason why you couldn't use one in an Amiga. I considered using one of Transcends 2.5" IDE SSDs in my 1200 but an 8GB drive cost $200 (at the time, the price has now dropped to $100) which was about double what my 8GB CF + IDE to CF adaptor. It certainly is nice to have options.

I´m still "oldskool", i see no much advantage over 2.5 HD´s, I have a 40gb in my A1200 and it works jut fine!

I used a 512MB Flash module from Transcend, works nice but too expensive to be a real alternative for hard disks.

Looks Pretty though

I am tempted to take the casing off one of my CF cards.... exposed pcb action... nothing quite like it

Lack of moving parts strikes me as a big advantage. While running cooler, faster and quieter are benefits, it was the elimination of a common point of failure that drove me to do it.

i think.... its small compact size interested me... and then it was the ultimate geeky-ness to have CF powered A1200.... not many people had them back then

Having started the business of upgrading my various retro-boxes to CF (from HDD) it does have huge advantages:
-Speed (who'd have thought it would make much difference - seek time, I guess)
-Low power (important for my ageing PSUs given how heavily upgraded they are )
-Reliability (as long as you're not running an OS that likes the thrash the ol' swap file)
-Space (more room for other goodies)
-And it's another option for file transfer if you're not networked-up.

Having said that I find the lack of noise a tad unnerving - Is it booting?

@Charlie

indeed the lack of noise seems as though the machine is missing something... however after firing up the A2000 the otherday, I was quite suprised how much noise 10k SCSI Cheata's make....

although wholsome.... i wont be missing that sound... LOL
