Well, 2 things..
1, he said at the request of Amiga Inc, so it wouldn't really be Cloanto's call..
2, has anyone checked this out?

I mean, if someone read something that someone else said on teh interwebs, I'm sure it's gotta be true, but maybe just worth double checking before spreading too many rumors....

OK - it's true. It's a four-byte change. Details:

http://multics.minidns.net/kickstart.../43b6dd22.html

This has been known (and confirmed) for ages, and you can see it right in the WinUAE source code.

Kual..

I wonder if the ROM ripping tools are aware of this change and do anything and/or if there's a program out there already to "patch" it back.

I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to do either way if it's just 4 bytes...
(Maybe even just use bsdiff to make the patch and bspatch to patch it, for those familiar with Linux)

Cloanto Releases Amiga Forever Essentials for Android

I thought one could download the Archive.org TOSEC collection's Amiga ROMs for free. I've been to the site and there they are just a click away.

Yep, although the discussion was about using Cloanto's ROMs. I was just interested in the possible tech solution side of the conversation.
Finding them online has always been a pretty easy option.

Also, there are some people who feel that buying Cloanto's collection is a legal way of getting the ROMs.
Personally, I think that's wrong. I think Cloanto's license is only for the ROMs when used in emulation (specifically theirs), but IANAL.

I've got real Amigas, I've got AmigaForever, I've got DLd ROMs, I've got burned ROMs. It's all good at this stage. IMHO. ;-)

Being blunt, I think 99,9% of users already have the ROMS in some form, I think this discussion is pretty much pointless about the 'what, the 'who' and the 'why'... (WWW)

Releasing identical files in different platform formats is silly.

The fact that they appear on more than one platform means exactly that someone else put in time, money and effort, while the Copyright holders did exactly nothing. Of course they didn't. Because it's not necessary to do anything to make the files work on other platforms.

So if you paid the Cloanto fee once, you have to pay it again for any new platforms that emerge?

65p surely not, but why not have the same option for PC users?

Edit: Please have a look at this thread to understand why I post here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=658856#post658856
It's been almost 3 years and suddenly there's a cheaper option... but not for PC users. Seems to be a bit 'questionable'...

It equals what many others charge on the same platform for a game they spent a year developing. They've already sold thousands, even to those who already paid for it once.

I know this song. It goes, "Everything counts in large amounts."

Thought the value pack was for PC users, £10 for legal roms. Thought that was a good thing. I know what your saying though. Could always ask cloanto.

Again I see what your saying. I suppose this is always going to cause a debate.

Only contains 1.3 KS and WB files. That's a tad sparse for that money to say the least

Please check the thread I linked to, because that's exactly what quite a few people did there. mcb answered to the thread. Still there's nothing for PC users (30 € is out of question 'just for the ROMS').

I know I get AF updates for free... the point is that everybody (yes, especially Cloanto) would benefit from a ROM only package Let's hope they will consider it soon now that the package for Android is out.
