Boxx 3

Boxx 3. The brightly coloured jump and run platform game is back!

System requirements:
-WinUAE: A1200/020, Fastest Possible and no Cycle Exact
-Real Amiga: A1200/020
-1.5 MB RAM

Game, graphics and level design by Lemming880

The game doesn't run on an A500 512KB chip + 512KB slow. It's because the game size is 1030KB. I have crunched the exe to fit in a 880KB adf. I think the lowest system to play on is an A500+ 1MB chip + 512KB slow/fast(?). But the game plays too slow on a standard 68K anyway. But I wonder if it would have worked if I had removed 6KB and kept under 1024KB.

These use Workbench slaves instead of game slaves. You can start the games the basic way by going to the folder but front end launchers don't like this.

Just played it on A1200 ACA1221.

Reached the end of level 3 but I couldn't complete it because I missed some baddy that was in the water and I had only a little energy left so jump in the water would kill me. I'd like green potions would bring a little more energy.

However, I think this is the maximum and the best Backbone game. Shame it cant get 50fps. I like your minimalistic graphics and especially level designs. It reminded me of school days when friend and I used to draw levels on paper during classes. This would be the nearest of what we drew The game itself kinda bring me that old vibe that SMS Alex Kidd had and that we were very fond of. Bosses are very well designed too. And I like your choice of mods.

CD32 pad support is really awesome touch. I don't remember, did you have that in Boxx 1 and 2?

Now you could make Boxxx Trilogy CD32 iso

Ha I know exactly where that is. Yup there will be unlucky moments in the game when you only have a little bit of energy left and have to go through water. But it means someone made too many mistakes. I created a balance between water damage and energy bottles. If you go through all the water the quickest way, you'll always end up with a full energy bar before the level's end boss. And not much more than a full health bar either (energy keeps adding up after the bar is full but you don't see it). If I add more bottles you can for instance end up with 200% energy before the end boss which would make the fight too easy.

And wow, not sure if this is the maximum but I did try to use all bells and whistles in backbone. I even tried 8-way shooting but that's bugged (chance that gun stops shooting), I had to delete a boss fight because of it. I did't use ducking though.

It does look like Alex Kidd but I didn't know that game. I used to build amateurish 8-bit pixel art in minecraft so that's where I got the idea from. I already liked using black borders. And the bricks are inspired by Wonderboy. Cool that it reminds people of different old games.

All 3 games have pad support. I was thinking of making a HD version with all 3 boxx's with a selection menu but I've no idea how. Maybe in AMOS? I could also upgrade the graphics of Boxx1 so it fits better with 2 and 3. And I'll have to learn how to make a CD32 ISO. Or maybe I'll better focus on making a different game in Redpill.

A Hard Disk version of the Boxx Trilogy is now available.

Download:
Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/BoxxTrilogyHD
Unofficial CD32 Ports: https://unofficial-cd32-ports.blogsp...ecd32sx32.html

This HD version was only possible with the help of Cobe. The menu of the CD32 version needed important changes for it to work on hard disk. So thanks (again) to Cobe for wrestling with the source code of earok's launcher app and changing it into a flawless working menu.

The following was added:
-Extra menu option to quit to Workbench.
-Menu joystick and keyboard control.
-Black background screen to cover up Workbench while switching between menu and game.
-Bonus: random changing intro logo each time the application is started.

Have fun.
