weird bug in A500...
Hi,
I have an A500 with the only add-on of a Multivision 500 scandoubler / flickerfixer. Recently when I wanted to sweep off the dust from it I connected to a VGA monitor, and had to realize that it has some fault, as I got buggy graphic and unstable system. Many apps freezing randomly, especially if it turns the video mode for more colors. I have the A500 service guide which tells I have to check the U2 socket, Agnus and Denise, so did it. (BTW Agnus sits in the U2.) Denis has moved onto the Multivision, as it has to be inserted into the socket for Denise. Of course I tried the original video without the MV, but got the same result. As one more tricky thing, sometimes there's lack of a colour, so the gfx looks even worse. I removed all chips which have been socketed, not just the Denise and Agnus, but nothing happened. The only clue now is some corrosion on some legs of the Denise, although I have no idea where it came from, as the whole board otherwise is clean and tidy. Any suggestions, what else this can be...? Thx at all. |

But what can cause corrosion on the legs of Denise? Nothing have been discoloured or became dirty arount that chip.

Then it had to happen >4 years ago, as since then I stored it in a dry room on a desk, away from anything wet. Maybe this corrosion thing can cause the problem? Thinking to replace the chip with an other one...

Lads 'N' Gents,
The problem has been solved! The colour difference was came from the VGA monitor, which now died. The pixel errors were caused by Denise, as some pins had bends in them and this leaded to bad connection. Another machine which works perfectly! This week thursday my latest investment will come home, an A500+ with mouse errors. Good execise for getting more knowledge about "my Precious" :P |

Bad mouse is caused by (commonly) a busted CIA.

Yeah, I had the same clue, but the previous owner doesn't want to fix it, just throw it out, so it's a saving from trash by me actually...
