ACA500 and boot CF with Kickstart 1.3

I have an ACA500 which I'd like to setup as a classic machine - Kickstart 1.3 with a Classic Workbench install from the Compact Flash. How do I go about this?

I CF drives appear if I boot with Kickstart 3.1 just fine but if I go into 1.3 and boot Workbench from my floppy none of the drives appear. I'm a little lost.

Perhaps CF has KS 2.0+ filesystem partitions? (For example FFS-INTL, DOS\03) or it has normal DOS\01 FFS but no filesystem in RDB? KS 1.3 require KS 1.3 compatible FastFilesystem in RDB. KS 2.0+ has FFS in ROM.

What does C:Info in KS1.3 CLI output? (Not a dos disk?)

Ram Disk Mounted.
Workbench1.3 Mounted.

I suspect the CF is setup for Workbench3.1 as it came from AmigaKit and had a install script asking for the Workbench 3.1 floppies to create a clean install.

ah I see them now - was booting with the wrong kickstart option! Thank you!

What do you mean by wrong kickstart option? IDE driver on/off should be the only option needed to activate CF slots under 1.3.

2.0+ does not need it, ROM has internal driver but it is also older version.

From the first page. I should had been using the F2 option not F4.

Hmm something still not right. No matter which compact flast card I use I can't boot directly from the card. All throw a checksum error on boot.

If I boot into workbench from floppy the drive is accessible but format / initialise always fails at the very end. Starting to not like this ACA500...

I am 99.9% sure the card simply does not have fully KS 1.3 compatible setup and has nothing to do with ACA500. KS 1.3 has really strict HD filesystem requirements compared to KS 2.0+. (Setting up HD under KS 1.3 is also quite annoying, much easier under KS 2.0+)

Size of card? Size of partitions? Dostype of partitions? RDB installed filesystem version? (Any even slightly wrong and there will be trouble under KS 1.3)

I'd of course recommend PFS3AIO

EDIT: I use ACA500 for transferring data between PC and Amiga (mainly for emulation comparison purposes) using FAT formatted CF card and PFS3AIO formatted CF card, it works perfectly under KS 1.3.

PFS3AIO, thanks I'll check it out. Been trying a 256Mb card and a 4Gb which is partitioned in less than 1Gb chunks (I'm using the first partition for Workbench1.3). I'm sure I'll find a combination eventually!

If you are using FFS and formatting under KS 1.3, make sure to use FFS format option or you get OFS format and OFS has 30-40M or so max partition size limit (format appears to work but you get errors sooner or later..).
