@BuZz

Boy I thought I kept a messy office, but compared to most people here I have a sanitized operating room. I just cannot get anything done when there's a mess on my desk.
I need space to write and at times sketch out what I want to I want to do. And when I'm coding being able to have a reference book or tutorial open in front of me is a must.

@all members
By the way, the thread says "game room".
Are these all game rooms or home offices? Or a little of both?

Ol Caligari!!! I could never get use to the interface, but then I never really gave it a good try. Always stuck with the more traditional interface like Imagine and Lightwave.
I thought about getting TrueSpace recently, just to fool with and see how far its come.

I rearranged a bunch of stuff around and finally bought a decent 5 megapixel digital cam.

My dual PowerMac 867 and my trusty Sun dual 450MHz Ultra 60. Specs below, no need to repeat.

My OEM Athlon XP 2200+ and Silicon Graphics Octane systems.
A dual 300MHz MIPS R12000 on the desk and a single 195MHz MIPS R10000 on the floor below.

Damn, Oscar - that IS tidy! Lovely wood floors, too!

This is a bit off-topic, but your post reminded me and I must ask: can someone please give me some kind of translation table for mega-pixels? Every time someone starts hyping their digital cam, they lose me on mega-pixels, since I only speak inches and pixels (well, I also speak Picas at work, but I needed a chart for that for years!)

What do you mean the equivalent resolution in pixels?
Well I have the Sony DSC-P92. According to the manual.

Megapixels=Pixels
-----------------------
5.0 2592x1944
4.5 2592 (3:2) * records images in 3:2 format
3.1 2048x1536
1.2 1280x960
VGA 640x480

The difference between 2592x1944 originals compared to the resized pics I posted here are like night and day.

note:* The floors actually look better in the pics.

Whats a good older version of SGI hardware for somebody just interested in collecting?

It uses Sony memory sticks. At 2592x1944 I can get about 50 snapshots on a 128MB memory stick.

To read the images into my PowerMac or PC I can use either a direct USB 2 cable or my preferred way which is to use a Sony memory stick reader/writer with is permanently connected to the machine which I just slide the sticks in.

UNIX is awesome. I use them to write code mainly, but also as a web server to fool with from time to time. The dev tools on SGI are as nice to use. Probably the only friendly UNIX system out there after Mac OS X.
If you are interested, you can get just about anything these days.
Actually a basic Octane system with an 195Mhz R10000/256MB/HD/Vid/Keyboard/Mouse can be had for a little as $200 US. Digtial and analog audio in and out as well as SCSI and ethernet are all standard on these
After the Octane the O2 would be a nice choice and many can be had for about the same price with diffrent processors which fluctuate the price a bit, about $200 to $1500 US depending on processor. Expansion prices are decent.
Most people starting out go for the Indigo 2. Loaded with all kinds of ports on the back, Ethernet, ISDN, SCSI, audio and video.
You can get one of these with simiar specs as a above for under $100 US. And they look pretty too! It's vertical here in stands, but it's really a desktop case.

If you think that's large, check out my Mum's 12mpixel camera she uses for work (professional artist)

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~echo...film_s2pro.jpg (4256x2848, 3.4MB)

She uses an IBM Microdrive (1gb) for storage.
