I think a few thing kill the amiga, first of all many amiga owner didn't upgrade their old A500 and complaining when games didn't work for their machine.
Commodore didn't make HD standard in the amiga 1200, so the software company had to produce multi disk games taking ages to load.
They made some crap machines like 500+ & 600 who should never been made. This way people start thinking bad about Commodore, and didn't support them when the 1200 arrived. (Sega made the same mistake with megaCD & Saturn so no one bought the cool DC).
And then people didn't buy games just copy them
at coca cola incident. I spilt a can in my Speccy +3 - still worked

Sensiblefan I love you really. Let us make love, not war

God that sounds gay

You should be permanently baned for this blasphemy!!!

A500+ made well sense unlike numpadfree A600.

And Sega made another mistake called DreamCast.

The Amiga 500+ is a nice machine, but useless without a Kickswitch to 1.3, thanks to a lot crap coded games. Amiga 600? Well... forget about it, it's useless like a dick on a pope.

I love my Miggy 600, adding an IDE hard drive connector was the smartest move that C= could have done to the A500 format, my 2Mb A600 had a 40Mb (whoo!) hard drive back then, the missing numberpad wasn't such an issue as it was so much easier to carry to the computer clubs than my previous A500+ which I swapped for it. Remember, not everyone could afford a shiny new A1200 at the time....and what about Relokick? That worked for most games.

Anyone disagrees with me, look at Zetr0's A600+ project and weep...oh and by the way, I may just kill you a little bit as well....

You spend much more money for A600 mods as an Amiga 1200 costed at the time? And you still have no AGA?

Oops, no.. that was Zetr0!!!

Aparantly you didn't like to play civilization and colonization?!

Keypad made those games much more enjoyable. (I had to get external USB keyboard to play them on my laptop )

TBH Anubis, back then, I had a life, so I didn't get too hung up on long-winded strategy games. I bet you play WOW or AOE now, don't you?

LOL

Nop in either case. Lately I play with daughter (ver. 1.0) and have not much time left for games, but when I do, I still preffer some old games and only games that grab my attention such as X-men: Legends did couple of days ago.

But what that has to do with anything??

Have you ever heard of save option in the games?

@ R-N

I am building an A600+ like Zetr0's, but I am not paying anything like the cost of an A1200 to do it. I may even build an A1200+ too, just to have an AGA version, then I can load anything from DVD and by-pass the PCMCIA-CF adapter.

Complete??

What do you have?? TOSEC? SPS?? WHDLoad?? Which one of those is complete??

Not to mention that real rom-whore (includes adfs pifs etc...) has to have all per site as well, like all dream-zone disks,....

After you add to that PD scene and CD32 games and you're well over 15GB.

What really REALLY killed the amiga....

hmmm......

Piracy is just a scape goat developers use to jump ship and attempt to remain credible. its a load of bollox, if some one was going to copy the game, they were not going to buy it in the first place.

I am not saying I am every body, but like a lot of my friend, I may play the latest leech download of a game. if i like it.... i buy it... but with most things PC, .... well there just not good enough.

it pisses me off when a developer / distributer blames "piracy" for thier lack of sales.... have they not considered their market research was bull and thier product seriously lacking?

"Piracy" is THE Scapegoat for ALL developer / distributer ills, the main reason why people started downloading Metalica in the late 90's is because they sold out to commercialism and were/now/are crap... no one would pay for that dross.... after all they failed to get a top 20 hit in nearly 4 years.... and expect people to buy THAT album.... bah pathetic.

the truth for me at least.... thats the truth we carry with us, REAL piracy are those that "manufacture" an identical product and then pass it on as the "Real DEAL".... another truth that i hold dear is the cost of this artwork.... remember its mass produced in the millions so it costs a shit-load less to produce than I ever could ..... and it only costs me £2 including case / label media etc.... yet they want sometimes more than ten times that!!!!! who's the fucking pirates now?!?!?!?

Okay... slight rant there.... but its a subject i am passionate over....

now insofar for the Amiga.... ahhhh my beloved.....

when Escom died.... that spelled the end of the Amiga
