Hard Disk LED With 4XEIDE'99

I have an odd problem with my A1200.

With an 4xEIDE'99 expansion fitted I can plug in my CD-ROM and a 2.5" 160GB hard disk, it all works fine but the hard disk does not light the activity light, only the CD-ROM.

If I plug the HD direct into the Amiga's IDE Header it lights the LED fine. So the 4XEIDE'99 is to blame... no! If I put my Amiga's original 60MB drive into the 4xEIDE'99's 44 pin port it lights the hard disk LED just fine!

Any ideas?

CD-ROM is set to master on the primary 40pin IDE and the HD set to master on the 44 pin.

Try the CD-ROM on secondary 40pin IDE

Is the CD-ROM is set to Master? Try setting it to Slave.

Best to put the CD-ROM on the secondary interface rather than as s slave. The reason being is that the Amiga connects its HD LED directly to pin 39 of the interface, rather than through any interface control circuitry. The result is that the CD-ROM will trigger the activity LED as well, since pin 39 is used to indicate the presence of a slave drive as well as signal activity.

Some CD-ROM drives only use pin 39 for the first 20 seconds or so, then don't bother, in which case after the first 20 seconds (when the LED is on constantly), the HD LED only activates for hard drive access. If you have another CD drive lying around and don't want to use the secondary interface, maybe try that one.
