CD 32 - Won't start any games

Hi,

I just got my new psu, so I thought it's time to play pinball illusions. After 1h of play the CD32 freezes. I had to reset, after this time she won't read any cds and just boot up if the cd tray us open. If i insert a cd she starts spinning it for 1 or 2 seconds and thats it. If i put a dvd or empty cd in she spins it like normal.

Any advice?

So, you tried a normal music cd and game cd?

Not sure why you put a DVD in there, as it wont even acknowledge it.

Also, are you saying it runs for 1 Hour every time or it ran 1 Hour once and will now not read any discs?

It just worked 1 hour once.

Id go with laser. Try cleaning the laser lens with IPA and cotton bud. If it still doesnt work, turn the laser power control clockwise a little bit and try again.

If it still doesnt work, then its either the laser faulty or maybe the spindle motor dirty (this is a possability, but not often).

Another well know hardware problem: the two biggest capacitors on PAL CD32 units are mounted backwards.

Check if they didn't leak or blown out.

For general information: the NTSC version of the CD32 is not plagued from this mistake.

Same with PAL CD32's.
Only an early batch had them in the wrong way round. I have 2 CD32's 1 early and 1 alot later, the early 1 has cap problem. Later 1 doesnt.
