USB to LAN adapter.

As part of an A1200 project (currently on hold awaiting parts) I wanted to network it without having a PCMCIA card sticking out three feet from the side.

Ingredients:
-One USB card. (subway in my case)
-One USB stack. (Poseidon 3.2 & up will do - updates could be tricky)
-One USB to RJ45 adapter.*

*but what adapter?
-Most don't quote specific chipsets. (Pegasus I-II or ASIX needed)
-Even when you think you've bought the correct one there's every chance it won't contain the expected chipset. (manufacturers are in the habbit of making regular changes without warning - caught me out)

I've been in touch with Cablestar a fair bit recently on this subject and they have really gone above-and-beyond in an attempt to be helpful. I suspect there's an Amiga fan buried in there somewhere.

USB 2.0 (1.1 compliant), Pegasus chipset...

My copy of Poseidon recognizes it quite happily, unlike the other adapter I bought.
Have I set up a network with it? No, but only because I haven't gotten round to it yet. I'm far from the first person to do this, so I know it can be done in principle. A reliable source of adapters with compatible chipset(s) is the problem.

So, look them up. (worth mentioning you're using a miggy if you make an order; for the above reasons)
They've got a fair bit of other potentially useful stuff. Keep in mind they don't officially support Amigas but I'd say a supplier willing to be this helpful is worth supporting.

you can update to 3.8 easily. if you cannot get the update PM me. the 68k psd-stack is 99.9% complete, there would not be a newer version with added features, the late 3.8 one also has zorroIII DMA and non-DMA usb2 support... (for the new E3B card)

mind you, that you might get crap speeds with usb->lan adapters in amiga... I hear the last updates fixed that but I have not tested it.

As far as I can remember I downloaded 3.8 before the site went down, but I may pester you at a later date if you don't mind...

...I do remember installing Poseidon 3.2 from the disc included with my subway & noting the stack had installed unregistered. I've not so far looked too hard for a keyfile on the disc & with the support site going down sort-of went 'oh-well' & moved on to another project.

there is no need for further "registration action" if you use it with your subway, assuming you have a newer batch subway that has a 3.x OEM licence...
just open trident, and on hardware double-click the subway.device so it will open a window that shows registration info...

My subway was bought a little over a month ago from Amigakit so I guess should be fine.

The subway is slow by it self as it use clockport maybe the most slow USB card we have ? I can imagine you wont get the best speed out of it i am afraid but ofcource i will try as well ....
