CD-32 exclusive games ?

Hi !

Just wanted to know if there ever existed some CD-32 exclusive games ? I mean such which actually made use of the Akiko chip so you cannot play them on a unexpanded A-1200 ?

Also, which games only appeared on the CD-32 ? e.g. Flink, Litil Divil,... ? ( these are playable on an AGA Amiga in cracked versions, right ?! so no exclusive CD-32...)

Anyone has a list ?
Thanks !!

Ok, but doesn't have to be really exclusive.
I would be happy with some more CD-32 games which won't work on any other Amiga, even in cracked versions. Are there any more ?

Yeah, I tend to ignore non-Commodore machines...

I heard Wing Commander uses the Akiko, so maybe that can't work on other Amigas...

Wasn't Akiko one the greatest hoax ever? I mean, what the hell, we heard so much at the time (PC-3D-type games easily on the Amiga etc...), but nothing, absolutely nothing happenned with it.

Sorry, but even Microcosm works on a real A1200/A4000 without Akiko

I´m pretty sure there is NO CD32 game that cannot be run on any other AGA Amiga

Hmm, that's a pity
So why do so many people love the CD-32 then ?
Are there any good demos which show what would have been possible on this console ?

I have never dealt much with the CD-32, but I thought there was more difference between a CD-32 and an AGA Amiga than between a CDTV and a Amiga-500.
So, was the CD-32 just an A-1200 with CD-ROM for gamers who wouldn't want to deal with a computer instead ?

Uhhhh .... yes Except the fact, that you can get more movie scenes etc. on a CD than you can get on any Disk

Wing Commander CD32 does use Akiko, the version ripped for Amiga AGA are patched to replace calls to Akiko with some software C2P functions.

how good and fast is Akiko?

good enough to run a flawless version of Wolf3d?

good enough for warcraft and perhaps warcraft2?

On my SX32-Pro Akiko C2P is faster than CPU+Blitter C2P - but it's not MEGA fast... it still can't do 320x256 1x1 in 1 frame.

hey now...

CD32 does have SVHS... a standard someone told me years ago would be phased out... I looked at him like he had two heads... even now, the SVHS widescreen display on my 29" digital tv (set for widescreen) is better than the HDTV display on my 32" widescreen tv (default widescreen)

sure the pixel ratio etc might be slightly different and if the HDTV was 720 or 1080 etc it might look better but
I expected a little more significance...

anyway, also, the cd32 had the FMV unit... I made the mistake of selling my years ago (how did I know they would
become rather hard to get later ) but since then in
recent years acquired two now... heh

anyway, back in the early 90s... I was going to generate Imagine animations and save them out in widescreen frames (believe it or not) compile an mpeg from them, use a worm
drive, create a cd etc, play mpeg through SHVS at real
speed etc...

never happened but hey, would have made a good impression
way back then...

but enough about the business side of Amigas in the early 90s...

How did you find two? I can only find silly prices on Ebay. Who on earth would pay $400AUS (160 UK Pounds) for a mpeg FMV cartridge?

don't get them started musashi5150

I can't stand those dweebs who simply must inform us that there is 999 different things more worth while to spend our money on than something 'god forbid' that we actually want...

anyway to elaborate somewhat I actually paid about $350 for the FMV unit I reclaimed... I had decided earlier I'd pay up to $1500...

Indeed, I agree. When I bought my GVP A530 from eBay I got it for £80, but I'd have paid up to £200 for it

Can I just ask why? I can't really believe you would pay $1500 for what a $50 DVD player could so a lot better?

While waiting for Mr Slayer I'll give my point of view. It's not about the money, or necessarily about what the FMV unit does - it's about having a CD32 with FMV capability because he WANTS one.

I bought my whole PC for £600 GBP. It does pretty much EVERYTHING 'better' than my Amiga 4000. But I was happy to spend £600 GBP on an 68060 processor and a graphics card for the Amiga - because I WANTED it.

It just depends what your passion is. Perhaps you don't love the CD32 as much as Slayer does - but it doesn't matter, does it? As long as he is happy.

My friends at work think I'm stupid because I'd spend £15K GBP on an old Honda NSX, but I would really like one if I had that kind of money spare. They would all be happy riding around in stock Peugoet/Renault etc. It just depends on what you really like in life I guess...
