Hi Damien,

I have received your DVD and played with it a few hours. I was impressed from how, without having ever used any SNES emulator before, I was able to install the software and start gaming in a few seconds using your setup script.

Thanks for the big effort you put on it and for the DVD, it will be remembered!

Ciao,
Luca

You really should give this thread a more meaningful name Damien

W000T!
thanks a lot DamienD for a copy!!!

fortunately i have no windows installation on my computer -
but unfortunately i have some problems getting the dvd running under my
gentoo x86 via wine.
wine settings are very default.
when running "wine SETUP.EXE" from the SNES dir i get :
ALSA lib conf.c:3949snd_config_expand) Unknown parameters 0
ALSA lib control.c:909snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default:0
fixme:wave:ALSA_AddCaptureDevice Add support for DSCapture
(alsa stuff above is very likely not the problem, as i also get it when starting winecfg)

Warning: unprotecting memory to allow real-mode calls.
NULL pointer accesses will no longer be caught.

any wine expert around who can help to get this baby working?

can't wait to get it rocking
cheers,
frostwork

Unfortunately I've never had any experience with WINE. I wish I did so I could understand exactly what's going on.

Only tested this DVD using Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

I also doubt that the error relating to sound has anything to do with the SNES DVD as no sound is played after launching the initial "graphic", SETUP.EXE or README.EXE...

The SETUP.EXE does try to create some directories i.e. C:\SNES\SAVES, copy across a shortcut to the "Windows - All Users" Desktop i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop (for English users) and also copy files / folders to a HDD partition if you select options through the menus.

From the PM you've sent me though you said that the SETUP.EXE doesn't even launch

I'm not sure what to suggest, hopefully somebody else who has a copy of my SNES DVD and access / experience with WINE can assist?

Alternatively, if somebody has Gentoo x86 / WINE and would like a copy to see if they can work out more then please PM me.

hey Damien!

A quick search with my favorite search-machine for the full error mesage
has 146 hits, so the error is not too rare.
i'm sure this can be solved somehow. (but how? )

The dvd runs without problems on a real windows installation, so it's obviously a fault of Wine. You should ask in a Wine forum, this would be certainly more helpful. Why don't you check some of the 146 search results you found ?!

Hmmm, just checked through a few e-mails I recieved back from members who I've sent the SNES DVD to...

Here's an interesting one from Haps, hopefully he doesn't mind me posting this:

You've done an excellent job. My mate Dave was here when I loaded it up in VMWare and he has already hit me up for a copy.
Looks like haps was also unable to get this running via Wine

Maybe you should give it a bash in VMWare instead

I don't mind.

Obviously, there is an inherent performance hit running under a virtual machine. I can't recall which games I actually tried under VMWare, because it was just a quick test before we headed off down the pub, but they where at least playable (I think. The old memory is failing fast.). Once I got back from the pub I setup a Windoze box and have been using it since.

hi, there is no need to run snes emulators from wine. linux native ZSNES or SNES9x work pretty nice since ages.

hi
@konrad
thx for smart hints!
maybe it would also help others to discuss this here, so not everybody has
to search for himself....

vmware needs a windows installation, right? so this is not an option
of course snes9x and zsnes work native on linux, but not damiens menu
i'll tell you if i get it working

Yup, unfortunately

Besides just including the 2 emulators and 1200+ hand picked ROMS, the SNES DVD also has:
  • An easy to use SETUP.EXE program that allows:
    • Options to select the location to run everything from i.e. DVD or HDD partitions.
    • Choice of 2 emulators i.e. Snes9x or ZSnes.
    • Setup emulator options i.e. display, best options, controls.
  • Front-End with screenshots i.e. LusSpace.

Hi DamienD,

while reading the Thread of the "Super Gamebase" http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39880, I found your post about this thread !
Is there any way to get this DVD ? maybe there is an existing torrent ?
