Kickstart v1.3

Hi can someone tell me the advantages of having kickstart v1.3 over kickstart v1.2. Will more games and demo's work ? What improvements did commodore make with v1.3.

The main improvement, at least for me, is than you can autoboot from Harddrive, in 1.2 you can't.

KS 1.2 is probably more compatible than 1.3 because there are few KS1.2-only games

Perhaps there are some KS1.3-only games too but I think most programmers stopped using direct ROM jumps after KS1.3 was released.

1.2 technically had AutoConfig capability, but for a stupid bug. I wonder if one were to fix the bug, would 1.2 suddenly have autoboot capability, or would it depend on the *scsi.device that the controller uses?

It should work if the only autoboot related bug is that well known wrong address register (expansionbase, not execbase)

Still crashes (quick emulation test only). Either there are more autoconfig related bugs or A590 v7 ROM requires KS1.3 for some reason. Note that you can't test in emulation without recompile because of "KS1.2 or older = disable emulated autoconfig" test.

Anyway, if someone is interested in doing more tests, Kickstart v1.2 rev 33.180 autoconfig base register fix is as simple as changing single byte in offset 00004D9C: 0x2C -> 0x20 (+checksum fix)
