Amiga Inc. will die in the current bad economy? Opinions?
Amiga Inc. will die in the current bad economy? Opinions?
They recently lost their main financier due to death. Sorry to hear about that, it's never good when anyone dies. Our guess is that AI will die in the current bad climate that is the world economy. They have no compelling new products and have alienated the Amiga community for years. AA2 appears dead and the Win Mobile market it requires to survive is struggling against Nokia, iPhone, Blackberry & Google Andriod. |

I can see it happening to be honest, god knows where Amiga will end up if it becomes so.
I've never once thought that their mobile phone route was going to be successful for them. |

I didn't even know they were still going.
As far as I am concerned, Amiga is dead, its now a retro hobbyist machine, any pretence that having the company name of 'Amiga Inc' somehow making them legitimate is laughable. |

The real question is: who cares about LAmiga Inc. these days? It doesn't make any difference if that company dies or not as it wouldn't change anything.

Fuck' em and bury them deep enough so they don't surface ever enough.
They been long bankrupt anyway. When hey finally announce i, I'll celebrate. One can only dream, but I hope someday the stuff gets public domain for pleasure of hackists and hobbyists. |

If they did fold, the rights and assets would just pass along to someone. I'm not sure of the details of what owns what part of Commodore and the Amiga, but if Amiga Inc. files bankruptcy the rights and other assets, intellectual and otherwise, would be auctioned to scrape any remaining value to pay creditors.
Best case scenario is a philanthropist that scoops it up on the cheap and releases it for fans. This would nullify what Cloanto does, for good or bad, if the kickstarts are all into the public domain. Worst case scenario, some bank buys it for a song, or just gets it by default because they lent Amiga Inc. some money and let it die, Cloanto's deal with it. I'm not sure how much of Amiga Inc's assets would be of much value, though, other than having kickstarts freely distributable and that seems to not really stop anyone.. |

Hmm... how much is the Commodore Amiga hacked up to different pieces nowadays? Amiga Inc owns the brand-name and logo? Hyperion owns the OS?
But isn't there more to this stuff? Like... who owns all of those copyrighted special chip and bioses and such? Does Amiga Inc really own that stuff? |

Seems like Predabot. I would say they own all the things that Commodore (and the original Amiga Inc of course) developed back then now.

Realistically, the current economic issues have nothing to do whether AInc will fold or not.
They wouldn't have appeared in the first place without the dotcom bubble and any fool being able to attract VC with a website at the time... |

As far as I remember, all that stuff was bought and kept by Gateway.... who has that now? Gateway has probably been absorbed by another company by now.,. The current shit that goes by the name of Amiga Inc. now only nought the name (not Commodore name) and the OS, on the deal Gateway kept the Commodore hardware stuff. |
