Hello AMIGA500FAN, and welcome to EAB.

You can make that floppy drive work with your Amiga 500 using Stedy's PC floppy adaptor for Amiga.

However, you might need to do some work with a dremel to get it to fit in the case properly.

Floppys Panasonic JU-257A6xx works very stable at 150rpm.
In yers 2000-2002, more than 200 units I have modified panasonic floppy to HDD. They work with any Amiga from OS 2.04.

i have a 1200 for repair, i remove warranty and open, the drive is broken, is panasonic ju-257a605p and under the mainboard i find a wire from pin 2 to 34 (like escom-amiga tecnology), remove the floppy and insert one from another 1200 (chinon) and remove a wire from 2 to 34 and add a wire for use the chinon, now thw 1200 is perfect, but i need more info on original panasonic ju-257a605p, in the escom-amiga tecnology a1200 the drive is 880k or 1760?

I have to look for it in the recesses of hard drive on my A500T.

As I have written worked on it in 2002. Later, the demand is over and the cooperation with company ended.

yes, I know. but by '1,44Mb drives' I meant 'ordinary cheap PC floppys that cannot easily slow down to 150RPM but can be modified to work as 880/DD Amiga drives'. it should have been obvious.

The Panasonic JU-257A 605P is a PC compatible 1.44MB floppy drive unit typical of those used by Escom in their AT1200 machines. The Escom AT1200 motherboard is modified to allow PC compatible floppy drives to be used as 880K Amiga drives.

These units were never designed to be used at 150 RPM, so they cannot be used as 1760K Amiga high density drives.

Yes, but after my modifications to the floppy (Panasonic) could be used as HD 1760K.

Today I will try to find documentation.

These floppy drive were almost not corruptible. Most are dirt or heads, or swiches DP, HD/DD.

Here is a link to one of my old projects, Panasonic HD drives rebuilt to 1.76 MB, (GAL16V8 contains 34 logical gates) Fully compatible Chinon BF-357A.

No need to find it today (I mean, there's no hurry), but it will be VERY interesting .
Was it a complex modification?
And (a 1-million dollar question, I know) could it be applied to other models/manufacturers?

Thanks for posting, Boboo_SK!

I should imagine that jarob's modification will turn out to have been something quite similar. The conversion to Amiga 1760K is not trivial.
