FWIW:
I did something similar with an '060-A1200 - no stability issues, BUT a good PSU would be sensible. (mine's a Goliath PSU)

Aye, good psu is essential.

Im using a 300Watt PSU. If you have a standard Commodore PSU, then I would seriously consider getting a ATX / AT PSU.

+1

Mines a 250W PC PSU with an Amiga connector on it, made by Wintech Electronics corp Not my usual brand of choice but supplied by Amigakit . Runs an 060, 2 external floppies, IndivisionIdefix and a 4 gig sandisk CF....

Not the most elegant solution for a Desktop, but will do for the minute as I am too skint to sort my tower case out

A standard 1200 brick would not be happy with an internal CDROM drive, you might get away with an older 500 unit.

Not all A500 PSU have enough power to drive a CD unit, too.

I tell you what guys, I've been lucky.

My A1200 PSU (hope it doesn't kick the bucket! I will be replacing it soon...) Has successfully powered my slimline DVD drive, my SSD, my 030 32MB, IDE Express and Indivision. I was expecting to kill it after your advice, but it's stayed up.

Next to do: Route some of the case out for the DVD, I think it'll just fit in the A1200 case...
Next on shopping list: PSU and WHDLoad!!!

Then I'll start a thread with lots of AmiPr0n...

I have a couple of those heavy a500 psu's here that seem to cope with many things. Im hoping to do the same things ive seen here on this thread, fitting an ide cd drive and my cf ide card.
