Nice score! First try? What car did you use Graham, the Elan?

Yep, it was the Elan. Was up a bit later than I expected last night playing it - it was my first go at this for ages but stormed it. It's only a slightly lower score than I got when we played this in the Knockout seven years ago so I rather surprised myself.

17,656,620 First try, my first game of this in like 20 years or so. Thought it would be even worse, but the track where I got the Game Over, I thought I was doing pretty well, not crashing too much and still didn't have enough time It was the raining track, first one, don't remeber if there are more raining tracks later on the hard level. Never played this too much back at the time, though I remember finishing it on every possible mode. Last edited by Shatterhand; 14 December 2015 at 23:32. |

@ Shatterhand - I think the rain track is race 9? Race 8 being the fast fog level. There is only one rain track in this selection, there are two Future ones.
@ mihcael - looks like Lemon forum is down again today. I think the game takes about an hour to complete, and after level 8 they go by quite quickly. |

Race 12 is very long too. I made a 20+ million score yesterday, but I dont have the picture here with me right now, I'll post it later at night (I am playing on real hardware, so I have to take a picture, not a screenshot )
I find really funny how on the closed circuit levels, the game gives you a shitload of time when you finish the initial laps, but then on the last 2 or 3 it barely gives you any extra time at all. It gives you a wrong feeling of security when you see the counter showing "99" passing through a checkpoint in the middle of race, and then on the last lap you have like 40 seconds and your mind goes like "I'm fucked". |

Yes, and on the last lap is generally where I make the most mistakes, when it matters most.

25910880 Finished the game on my 3rd try. I am amazed people are scoring 29-30 million on this. You guys gotta be *real* good on this to squeeze 4-5 million of points. I know my gameplay was very far from perfect, but 4-5 million seems a lot to make. The hardest tracks IMO are 9 (rain) and 12 (night at the city), not because the circuit is hard, but because the time limit is very tight. They end up being really fun though, because you need to be very careful on those tracks. And the coolest one to race is the snowy one (I think it's race 7 or 8, not sure), because you are skidding on turns for all the track, it nearly feels like it's a drift event. It's completely unrealistic (those turns go forever), but it's very fun to play. And the track on the mountais has a big drop on the framerate. I remember with 2 players it became really bad. I don't know if I'll try again or even if I can top this. |

@ capehorn - I knew you would be trying hard - three goes in a row! Thanks for trying out the M200, I was going to do the same thing to see if that was any better, but you proved it isnt. Andrew Morris said they weighted the Elan with more time, "otherwise why would anybody choose to play using the Elan". But I think pro Lotus players like us should be able to nail Hard with the other cars - but we cant - so this must be a bug in the game. Again, 3 goes in a row!. Its going to take the same amount of effort from the others to beat you score, and get through to the next round.
@shatterhand - we had a discussion about the juddery cliff/mountain levels on the Lemon forum. With the CD32 version the levels have been fixed, so no more stuttering. You can find this version linked in the first post, as part of the special 2015 Knockout Compilation CD, kindly made by a fan for us. It also contains the Competition Patched version of F1GP, so you can enjoy that with full frame rates too. As for scores, every second counts. Try not to bump into the back of cars, as this really slow you more then skimming the sides and bouncing off signs. Never go over logs/fences to jump. Always try to take the middle of the road to avoid oil, rocks and snow to either side. Good luck. |

I am very impressed at your first time score. There's barely a second between mine, JPV's and Parpala's scores which is amazing over 15 tracks, and you're only 6 seconds ahead but it feels like a lot. My last round was pretty good apart the Marsh level which was horrible.
The M200 was actually a mistake. I picked it not knowing anything about the game and it couldn't finish the storm level. According to the ingame stats the Elan is the worst car so I don't understand how it performs the best, something about time you said? My scores were actually set a day apart - I wasn't going to post 13m and I didn't think the timeliness of posting was all that important in the first week - the second week more so. |

capehorn - yes they gave the Elan extra time when going over the line, so it doesnt affect the first lap, but gives the player a boost in time on all the other laps. Would have been nice to use the Esprit, as now it feels like Lotus Elan Turbo Challenge III. Thanks for the complements about my time. I drifted off in a daydream at the end of race 7 (wind?) and rammed the back of a car on the last lap, so I was crawling all the way to the line from there, and this is where I lost the time (4-6 seconds) over Graham's first attempt. If I thought I could have got 30M+ I would have concentrated more. But as I say on Lemon, I dont expect to get through SWOS so I'm not going to have another go.
