Fantastic Dizzy

Can anyone get Fantastic Dizzy working at a reasonable pace in WinUAE? It absolutely crawls - I thought it was sound related, but I fiddled with it to no avail. Ideas?

If you are running XP: I've noticed when running WinUAE under XP and at the same time running some other app, it will slow down WinUAE, so exit any other application before starting winUAE!

Hmmm. It works fine for me Excelle, under all different configurations. I don't use openGL for output however.

Are you using openGL? Try it with normal screen output.

My PC is:

Duron 800
256MB PC2100 DDR
Geforce GTS 64MB
sblive!

I've tried A500 configs, A600 configs, A1200 configs with and without JIT cpu's and full sound. No problems.

Can anyone else help?

Maybe it's just my crap computer then

My current config is (please lord give me some money)

PIII 450
128Mb RAM
Voodoo 3 3500
SB Live!

And it crawls :P I'm gonna fiddle with some more configs, else I guess I'll go and find a loan shark

Tried running it in the older WInUAE 0.8.8 R9. It's less power hungry, grab it from the page below. WInFellow might be worth a try as well, again requires less CPU power.

All donations to....

Sadly none of these ideas worked Bloodwych mate - even running it on Amiga 500 with 1Mb chip didn't help, older version of WinUAE was no different, and I'd already tried Winfellow. Bugger - upgrade it is then :S

Cheers for trying!

This is DEFINITELY a problem with the disk image then.
It *must* work satisfyingly on a REAL stock A500 with RAM expansion because I also remember playing it there back in the days without any problems. I did *not* have the Fairlight crack on disks, though.
Maybe it would be worth it if someone retransferred an alternative crack (neither FAIRLIGHT nor CLS).

Galahad, has there been a problem with this game back then when cracking it? Perhaps some "workaround"-like things required to code in, making the game engine slow down considerably, i. e. having the effect of applied brakes?

As far as I can remember

The protection was a S1 Copylock that was encrypted and when it did its thing, it decoded the main game data and then executed the game.

Nothing tricky, for sure Gaston would have removed it all to get it working.

Unless the crack intros introduce a DMA bug into the game, but then again, I never had any problems with the FLT version (with the scrolling cogs?).

The frame skip speeds up the gameplay a little, although still not up to full speed, and it still sounds awful lol :S

I tried the Fairlight crack version (the one with the fade in/out blue stretched fairlight writing on a black bg), and the Classic crack, but they were both the same, except the Classic crack managed to screw up some of the gfx.

Btw andreas, when I said a A500 with 1Mb Chip, I meant a WinUAE emulated one, not the real thing... Damn, I'm just not clear

HEHE
Well, I couldn't guess that.

So I know it should work fine on my REAL (!) A500 if I transfer it back to real disks. Good news.
I'm awfully sorry Galahad for the confusion. I had actually thought he had been talking about problems on a REAL A500, which caused the context to get distorted throughout
