For more horrible cover art, check this out:

[ Show youtube player ]

Metro Cross is actually the last cover featured there, and the presenter mentions finding it on a forum... Maybe this one?

Sorry, but to this day I still wonder where his right arm is or why he's wearing a red loincloth.

Right arm is hand that is holding the gun. Left hand is supporting the gun.

Red lioncloth?

I always had mixed feelings about this piece of art. It's certainly painted to a high standard and ver ynamic, with him bursting into the foreground shotting the gun and all. But there are some problems with it. First of all, what's up with the weird chin/mouth area? This man has the squarest jaw of all manly men in the universe! The convex area between his lower lips and jawline is so deep, I bet he could fit a whole spare magazine of ammo for his gun in there. When not quite looking at this area in particular, I always tend to oversee the clenched, bared teeth and instead see an overly large, toothless laugh.
Then there's the pig-nosed helmet, surely this is unceccessary from a design point of view?
The gun is also somewhat strange. The scope or sight thingy on top looks far more detailed than the surroundings and draws the eye of the beholder. It looks very cool, though! Also, whys does he hold the gun in that way? One hand gripping it's butt, is this like a thermos bottle with no real trigger or even grip?

There's a lot of problems with the artwork on close inspection, but it does the job of inviting you to consider the game as entertaining, and something you'd like to play.
It's not laughably awful like those master system boxes. As a child I saw them hanging on a rack in Woolworths and genuinely thought they were educational software.

First of all, in the cover art for the later games, the two big exhaust ports on his right are on his chest, not his right arm. In fact, it looks like he does have a right arm on T1's cover art, but it's just a tiny forearm that's embedded into his hip. As for the loincloth, look under his gun.

Anyways, say what you want about Julie Bell's art for the Accolade/Ballistic-published ports, at least it doesn't have a messed up anatomy:

doesn't have a messed up anatomy" - really? There is something wrong with his pose, the whole right side of his body is deformed.

Yeah, this is for sure the worst artwork for any Turrican game. Suits the crappy Mega Drive gameplay though.

I mean, at least he has an actual right arm. For a bit of an oddball, take a look at the Japanese art for Super Turrican (the SNES one):

Meanwhile, gawk at how the American version of ST1 SNES and ST2 used the same fucking T2 art:

The PAL release of ST2 at least put some flames in the background, but Jesus, how lazy can you get?

Not sure if it was posted already, but I just found the cover "art" for the Sega Master System version of Alien Syndrome. Ugh...

There are enough roids in that to fill 10 rounds of Mr Universe, not a good look
