Hooooo First Samurai (100% working)

Hi,

could anyone of you supply a non-tosec (!) version of First Samurai that works until the end?
Another EAB guy PM'ed me about this issue, and we found out that the CRYSTAL crack crashes after finishing level 4.
All levels except level 5 are working with this version.

Now I test-played the QUARTEX crack (in the zone), and same thing - but it happens MUCH later. After finishing level 8, the QUARTEX version shows level 9 for 1/10 second, then the screen goes black and nothing seems to happen anymore...!

So, does anyone have a 100% version of this addictive game?

Yeah, it may help but we need a 100% working ADF also in the collection, for the ones that are IN the collection are (partly) worthless.

Happy

Thanks so much!

I'll report you back how it plays.

[EDIT] Argh! Disk 2 is badly broken, and it's only disk 2 that matters here! After you're prompted for disk 2, WinUAE loads up to track #19 and then stops and/or crashes. You don't even get to level 1. That's a knackered version. I'd suggest to delete it and to NOT TOSECize it because it's a pile of data junk.

But do keep Disk 1 as an untrained variant of the CRYSTAL/GOONIES version! Your disk 1 in the zone is the original CRYSTAL release, without the trainer.

So, could someone else help out?

I have a couple of disks in my Unrecognized dir...I was gonna look at them last night and forgot. Should be a short day at work today, so I have it on my TODO list.

Was looking at usenet earlier and it seems that the non-TOSEC flood occuring is nothing more than yet more [a] versions of already existing games in the dats (sigh), so there will no doubt be a bunch of First Samurai alts coming up. Matter of fact, that was what the new TOSEC additions looked like, as well.

Has anyone tested these disks on a real Amiga? Or has anyone checked the actual disks themselves (iow, if DOS, tried copying the data to ram) or any other method to test the integrity of the actual disk/data?

I have the pair of DMS files from when the game was first released, so I'll convert those as well and see what happens.

I've been expecting this question, and there's a right to ask it
Well, I think there are cases when this is NOT needed. You can see that all levels are structured on the same pattern, so I really don't see a necessity for a real-thing test if you can play the game till the end by mixing several cracks. (But you will agree for sure that this doesn't deserve the term "solution" )

Sure, if you have the original, you know what to do.

We actually don't have a dump of this game which surprised me somewhat...

I dumped my Crystal crack DMS files and Disk 1 was not TOSEC recognized, and disk 2 was already in TOSEC. Sorry that was no help.

No prob. At least I know now that the CRYSTAL stuff did come *as-is* from the BBS world, so it's CRYSTAL's fault that level #5 is screwed!
Just look again if you have any other cracks...thanks in advance.

@andreas. Completely off-topic, but you do remember that the game ending sucked anyway!
I recall "The One" doing an article on games with good & bad endings & they mentioned F.S. as an example of the latter!

Well yes, it's not spectacular, in case that's what you were pointing to. But Rainbow Islands' ending isn't that spectacular either ... both mentioned remind me of a cheap demo

Was this problem ever solved? I want to add FS to my collection now and I remembered reading this thread about all the TOSEC versions being bad.
Has anyone got a 100% working version they can upload for me please?

TIA

The tip I got was to just mix two different cracks and then it works.
